Here’s a matchup of two teams that were left for dead about a month ago but have since resurged. The New York Rangers rode the red-hot goaltending of Henrik Lundqvist early this month but he could only do so much without any offensive support; amazingly, he lost two games last week in which he allowed a single goal. Finally, though, New York has responded. The Broadway Blueshirts have exploded for 14 goals in two games so far this week (both victories, needless to say). A big reason for the newfound success is secondary scoring, as Ryan Callahan and Brandon Dubinsky have combined for 10 points this week. Usual goal scorer Marian Gaborik even had four assists the other night.
In Philadelphia, the Peter Laviolette experiment is finally working. Now that he’s whipped the group of talented power forwards into shape (literally – conditioning is a major part of his regime), they’ve won nine of 11. 
If only they could bury their locker room turmoil, particularly with captain Mike Richards, once in for all, they’d be well on their way. Still, it won’t be hard for Philly to get up for a divisional battle tonight.
Tonight could really go either way but the Flyers have won four straight games at home. The Rangers are hot but they’re just not that good offensively; the outburst earlier this week was likely an anomaly. Expect a spirited affair and a close win for Philly.
