The number four and the number six seeds in the Western Conference meet in Nashville on Thursday night, each having lost their last game but playing very well as of late. Both teams appear to be shoe ins for the post season but as we know in sport, anything is possible.

The Phoenix Coyotes ride their red hot streak in to face a Nashville Predators team that has surprised yet again this season. By far the biggest shock in the NHL, the Coyotes had a share of top spot in the Western Conference before losing to their partners at the top, Chicago in their last game. They are 9-1 in their last 10 games and are a very good 20-13-3 on the road. Phoenix is primed to make their first post season appearance in eight years and will look to avoid falling into a slump with just eight games remaining on their schedule.

The Phoenix Coyotes success is thanks in part to the management team who brought in names like Lee Stempniak and Wojtek Wolski at the trade deadline. Both have figured in all but two of the Coyotes games since their acquisitions. It is a good thing, because the previous Phoenix stud, Shane Doan is mired in an 18 game goal-less slump. Surprisingly, the Coyotes have only the 26th ranked offense in the NHL. It is a good thing that Phoenix has goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov playing at such a high level and that Phoenix is the second best defensive club in the league.

The Nashville Predators have been another one of the surprise teams in the Western Conference, one that boasts no real superstars and relies on a total team effort for success. They are 7-3 in their last 10 games prior to a dud effort against Dallas in their last game, the Predators impressed with a six game winning streak.

Goaltender Pekka Rinne sported a 6-0 record with a miniscule 1.15 goals against average and three shutouts in those games. Rinne has also owned the Coyotes, going 2-0 this season and 3-0-1 overall with a 0.49 goals against average in his career against Phoenix. Sports Betting at the Sportsbook

Team Captain and scoring leader Jason Arnott may miss Thursday’s game, leaving a huge void in an otherwise unspectacular offense. Patric Hornqvist and Martin Erat are going to have to step up and deliver more that they already have.

Both teams have something to play for in this contest. With eight games remaining for both teams, Phoenix will be looking to regain some momentum while the Preds will want to create a little room in the log jam that is the Western Conference standings. I think that Dave Tippett will have his Coyotes fired up and playing at the top of their game. Phoenix realizes that a streak is a powerful thing and will wants to start a new one to continue into the Stanley Cup playoffs.
