The Calgary Flames are still alive! Their chances are slimmer after Dallas picked up two points and Chicago picked up on point on Tuesday night but they are still alive! On Tuesday night Calgary hosts the NHL doormats Edmonton – the same team that just took a home-and-home against the best team in the league, Vancouver. It should be interesting!

The Edmonton Oilers rode into Vancouver on Saturday night on an eleven game losing streak but something happened to them on the way to that game. They have won two straight games and have looked very good doing so. Still, this is a team without Ales Hemsky, Shawn Horcoff, Taylor Hall, Ray Whitney and Sam Gagner in the lineup.

Edmonton has been getting some good offensive efforts surprisingly. Linus Omark has four points in his last three games and Magnus Paajarvi and Jordan Eberle each have three points in their last three games.

Devan Dubnyk has earned another start between the pipes on Wednesday. He held the Canucks to just one goal in Edmonton’s last two games. Nikolai Khabibulin has been a disaster anyway!

It’s simply do or die time for the Calgary Flames. You gotta give them credit for picking themselves off the scrap heap earlier this season. But in the last couple of weeks their race toward the playoffs has caught up with them – the Flames are look like a tired bunch!

Alex Tanguay has caught fire offensively for Calgary with five points in his last two games and Jarome Iginla has been super-steady and has recorded nine points in his last four games. Everyone else has been woefully inconsistent – Renee Bourque and Curtis Glencross are pointless in three games and Matt Stajun is pointless in six.

Mikka Kiprisoff has been on the biggest yo-yo ride this season and is hard to pin down – when he is on; he is on – when he is off, look out! Fortunately for the Flames, Kipper has looked just fine in leading Calgary to two straight victories. He is 2-0-0 with a 1.50 goals against average over that span.

Betting Prediction: The Edmonton Oilers have won two straight games after losing 11 straight! They are 14-49 in their last 63 games on the road and are 17-35-1 in the last 53 games between the clubs. The Calgary Flames are just two points back of Chicago for the last playoff position in the West and are 19-7-2 in the last 28 games at home versus Edmonton.

Something tells me that the out of town scoreboard will have a lot to do with the outcome of this game. The Chicago Blackhawks could solidify their spot in the playoffs tomorrow night with their game kicking off 90 minutes prior to the Calgary game. I think the wind will be out of Calgary’s sails by night’s end and that Tom Renney’s Oilers put in another workmanlike performance. I love the huge dog in this one!
