The Devils are obviously in tough Tuesday – they are just 5-5 in their last 10 games and return home having gone 1-2-0 during their recent three game road trip. That’s the bad news – the good news is that the law of averages has to catch up to Boston at some point and that Jersey did win the only meeting between the two clubs this year.

I know it’s a stretch but any glimmer of hope is worthy of mention.

How bout them Bruins? On Monday night they faced a serious test from the formidable Minnesota Wild but they dispatched them 4-1 for their ninth straight win. Impressive but even more eye-popping when you realize that over the last nine games Boston has given up one goal or less in six of them.

Boston has outscored their opponents 36-13 during their recent streak – total domination! That’s 1.44 goals per game allowed in their last nine and four goals per game on offense – incredible. Jarome Iginla has been sizzling during a five-game point streak, scoring six goals and seven points over that stretch – 12 goals and 14 assists in his last 19 games!

Iggy isn’t the only contributing factor offensively – eight different Bruins recorded points on Monday night.

It is unclear as to who will start between the pipes for Boston Tuesday – Tuukka Rask earned his sixth straight win Monday and has a GAA of 1.50 over that span. If he sits Chad Johnson is a fine fill-in. Johnson is 3-0-0 in his last three games with a 1.33 GAA and .947 save percentage.

The New Jersey Devils are a desperate team but you wouldn’t know it. They have been just OK the last few weeks – fighting to get to eighth in the East. They return home from a 1-2-0 road trip in which the defense and goaltending really let them down.

Martin Brodeur saw his personal three game win streak end Saturday and Corey Schneider is 0-2-0 in his last two starts with a 5.55 GAA and .796 save percentage.

If the goaltending isn`t on top of its game, the Devils are in tough. The offense averages just 2.44 goals per game with Jaromir Jagr appearing to be the only consistent and legitimate weapon.

Jagr has three goals and six points in the past six games for the Devils – 18 points in his last 17 games while Damien Brunner has two points in two games and Andy Greene has three points in five game – that`s about all for the Hot Devils.

Michael Ryder is pointless in four games and Dainius Zubrus hasn`t recorded a point in five games which adds to the recent woes of the New Jersey offense.

A few trends to consider:
• Over is 6-1-1 in BOS last 8 vs. Metropolitan.
• BOS are 13-3 in their last 16 vs. Metropolitan.
• Over is 16-5-1 in BOS last 22 road games.
• Over is 7-2 in NJ last 9 overall.
• Over is 6-2 in NJ last 8 vs. Eastern Conference.
• Under is 56-26-16 in NJ last 98 Tue. games.
• BOS are 7-1 in the last 8 meetings.
• Over is 5-2-3 in the last 10 meetings.

Not only is Boston sizzling, they have owned the Devils the last few seasons – 7-1 in their last eight meetings. It is nearly unfathomable that this trend is snapped Tuesday – the Bruins are too good, too deep and too hot for the Devils to handle.

The best defensive team in the league should have little problem with a team struggling to score goals.

Pick: Boston Bruins -130
