Headline: Slumping Devils Look to Stop Bleeding Versus Motivated Bruins
The Bruins have the Montreal Canadiens in their sites for first place in the Northeast Division as well as second seed in the Eastern Conference. Boston has won both meetings between the clubs this year and has taken 10 of the last 11 versus the bumbling Devils.
The Boston Bruins face their second straight struggling team Wednesday night after dispatching the Carolina Hurricanes in relatively easy fashion 6-2 on Monday night. These teams met just six days ago and the Bruins let the Devils hang around finally dispatching them 1-0 in Boston. They have won four of their last five games overall but had some issues scoring before netting six Monday night. The team scored just eight times in the previous five games overall.
That said the scoring has been spread around lately. Dennis Seidenberg has three points in two games, Brad Marchand has four points in four games, Andrew Ferrence and Rich Peverley each have two points in two games and Jaromir Jagr has three points in his last three games. Boston is balanced although not all that potent offensively. But they, as per usual, count on their defense to win games.
The Bruins continue to be one of the best defensive clubs in the NHL allowing just 2.08 goals per game. Tuukka Rask made 40 saves Monday night continuing his solid play. He is 2-1-0 with a 1.34 GAA and .964 save % age in his last three starts and should have little issue slowing down a New Jersey offense that has struggled mightily since Ilya Kovalchuk went down with a shoulder injury. The New Jersey Devils have officially hit the skids – seven straight losses have corresponded with the absence of their biggest offensive weapon Ilya Kovalchuk. The Devils are 0-3-4 in his absence and they have scored just 12 times over that span – and four came in one game! Absolutely nobody is Hot for the Devils offensively – team leader Patrik Elias is pointless in his last three games which personifies their recent struggles.
You can’t blame the defense and goaltending for the recent skid – Martin Brodeur allowed just one goal in the last meeting between the clubs six days ago and is 0-2-1 with a very good 1.64 GAA and .929 save % age in his last three games.

The Boston Bruins are an elite squad and they showed on Monday night that they can score as well as defend. New Jersey has absolutely nothing going for them right now – Kovalchuk remains out and the team appears to be in ruins. Add in the fact that Boston has taken 10 of the last 11 versus the Devils and it is obvious that this game shouldn’t be close!
