ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

The Sharks looked like they had the series wrapped up after three wins to start the series but LA has climbed back into the series with three straight wins of their own!

The Kings are back to playing their brand of hockey after letting the Sharks skate all over them in Games 1-3 – now the pressure is squarely on the San Jose on home ice in front of what is certain to be a nervous crowd.

Simply put – the Kings have taken over this series and have dominated the last three games – winning each by three goals. Everything is going well for the Kings as we head into Wednesday night’s game – Jonathan Quick has regained his Vezina Trophy winning form and the offense has been surprisingly effective – 13 goals in the last three game!

Give Coach Sutter credit for tweaking his lines after Game 3 – the Kings are a different team offensively since that time. Justin Williams has five points in three games, Marian Gaborik and Tyler Toffoli each have four points in their last four games, Drew Doughty has three points in two games and Dustin Brown and Alec Martinez each have three points in their last three games. The Kings are peaking offensively at just the right time.

As good as LAs offense has been, it has been the Jonathan Quick show for the Kings. He has been remarkable – a 0.50 GAA and .982 save percentage in his last two games. Quick looks as though he has gotten in the heads of the San Jose Sharks as he has done to many teams in the playoffs in his career.

The San Jose Sharks have to be a nervous bunch! It’s not just that they are losing; it is the way in which they are getting beaten! Three straight losses – all by three goals speaks to the level of domination they have experienced. Nobody is playing well for San Jose at the moment as we head into the deciding game.

13 goals against in the last three games is definitely the issue here – Antti Niemi has not been good – 0-2-0 with a 8.00 GAA and a .822 save percentage in his last two starts – yuck. And Alex Stalock who had looked decent in relief was lit up for four goals in his only start of the series thus far! Poor Coach Todd McClellan! He’s got precisely nobody between the pipes he can lean on. The loss of Marc-Edouard Vlasic on defense is yet another reason concern for the Sharks ahead of Game 7.

All of San Jose’s defensive woes could be a moot point in the Sharks’’ offense was doing its part but that just isn’t happening at the moment. San Jose has one total goal in the last two games of the series – they were shut out last time they played on home ice. Where are Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau and Logan Couture? It appears as though the Kings stifling defense is effectively taking them out of their game.

A few trends to consider:
• LA are 14-4 in their last 18 games following a win.
• LA are 20-7 in their last 27 Wed. games.
• Under is 15-6-6 in LA last 27 Wed. games.
• SJ are 46-15 in their last 61 home games.
• Under is 6-2-2 in the last 10 meetings in San Jose.
• LA are 15-36 in the last 51 meetings in San Jose.

By now it should be obvious as to whom I like in Game 7. The Kings are rolling – just like they did during their Cup run two years ago. During that run, they looked unstoppable just as they do right now. San Jose is struggling – LA is surging!

Pick: LA Kings +124
