Bruins vs. Flyers Preview

The Boston Philadelphia series has finally swung in favour of the Philadelphia Flyers. After three good games against the Boston Bruins that resulted in zero wins, the Philadelphia Flyers have finally been smiled upon by the Hockey Gods.

Their two game win streak has been well earned and long overdue in the series. Now they get to go home once again to play in front of their raucous orange clad crowd in a Game 6 that many of them thought would never happen.

They Boston Bruins played decent hockey in Games 4 and 5 but have nothing to show for it. It is a total role reversal from the first three games in the series.

Scoring, particularly in Game 5 was an issue. Patrice Bergeron and Miroslav Satan were shut out and were only able to generate three shots apiece. It could be a blip or it could be a case of the Bruins fallings back on the play that made them the 30th ranked offense in the regular season.

The Bruins have not had the same defensive intensity that they had in the first three games of the series and are falling victim to the offense not doing enough to take the pressure off of them.

Zdeno Chara has not been the same in the last two games and neither has the supporting cast.

Tuukka Rask is still playing at a high level and is still giving the Bruins a chance to win.

The Philadelphia Flyers have hit their stride and look like a team that can match the achievements of the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs and the 1975 New York Islanders.

They are the only teams to come back from a 3-0 series deficit to advance to the next round. Everything is clicking for Philadelphia who appear to be unstoppable right now. Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

The Flyers series recovery has coincided with the return of Simone Gagne to the lineup. Two goals in Game 5 combined with his overtime winner in Game 4 have served notice that the scoring woes have righted themselves.

Jeff Carter’s fill-in Ville Leino has been playing like a man possessed and has appeared dominant at times. Offensively, the Flyers have made the second ranked goals against average team in the regular season look average. This is the best Flyers team that we have seen in the post season – even better than the one that eliminated the New Jersey Devils in the first round.

Goaltender Brian Boucher is gone for a month after straining his MCL in Game 5.

No worries though, Michael Leighton stepped in after being activated from injured reserve prior to Game 5 and made 14 saves to contribute to the shutout win in Game 5.

The Philadelphia defense is playing superb in front of its goaltenders and is assuring that games are not decided by the play of their netminders.

The Boston Bruins are not without their support. The TV ratings for Game 5 in Boston outpaced both the Boston Red Sox and the Celtics who are enjoying a playoff run of their own.

Boston has some work to do however. They have been outplayed in the last two games despite good efforts.

Philadelphia looks like a team of destiny and should send the series back to Boston for Game 7.
