The word “destiny” is beginning to be thrown around after Martin St. Louis found some magic, Earthly or otherwise, to score the game-winning goal in overtime to win Game 4. The goal extended his point streak to six games, dating back to Game 6 of the Rangers’ Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Rangers now are within a victory of their first Stanley Cup Final in 20 years, back when the team was led to the Cup Final by Mark Messier.

Messier came over to the Rangers with a Stanley Cup pedigree from his days in Edmonton as a member of the Oilers.

St. Louis brings a Stanley Cup pedigree of his own to Broadway, having won a Stanley Cup as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2004.

The team will have the chance to do so on the road in the Bell Centre on Tuesday, in front of an always hostile Montreal crowd. To do so, the Rangers will have to do a better job of staying out of the penalty box if they hope to end this series early.

The team allowed the Canadiens to go onto the power play eight separate times in Game 4, scoring once.

That dropped the Habs to 1-for-16 on the power play in the series as Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist continues to be the best player for either side.

P.K. Subban scored a goal in Game 4 to finally get onto the scoresheet – it was his first point of the series. He also had a game-high 33:16 of ice time on Sunday. The reigning Norris Trophy winner will need to put more performances like that together to help turn things around.

It was hardly unexpected to see the Canadiens band together and gut out a win in Game 3. They were bound to get at least one.

But the Rangers simply outclass them in this series, and that was even before Carey Price went down. The Rangers have had trouble closing out series, but the pressure will be on the Canadiens in this one as they play in front of a tough home crowd.

They’ll be squeezing their sticks a little tighter as they hope to extend their season, and that is not a recipe for success.

The Rangers are 4-0 in their last four road games and 6-1 in their last seven games overall.

The play: New York -110
