ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

The Red Wings continue this series desperately looking for some sort of offensive production. The team has managed to beat Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask just once in the past two games, and with the Bruins’ strong defensive system play from their forwards and defensemen alike, answers won’t come easy for head coach Mike Babcock.

The Red Wings have just two total goals through the first three games of this series, making this their worst three-game start to a playoff series since the 1945 Stanley Cup Final.

Babcock has said that he believes a big part of the reason for his team’s inability to generate offense is that they haven’t been getting players in front of Rask.

The team gets a big boost for Game 3 with the return of captain Henrik Zetterberg, who will skate in Game 4 for the first time in the series. He’s been recovering from back surgery and has missed the last eight weeks.

The team is also expected to have both Pavel Datsyuk and Niklas Kronwall in the lineup after both left the team following Game 3 to be at the birth of their children.

As for the Bruins, they’re flying high having outscored the Red Wings 7-1 over the last two games, and have put themselves in position to take a real stranglehold on this series with a Game 4 win. The team had some young players step up in Game 3, with 20-year-old Dougie Hamilton and 23-year-old Jordan Caron each scoring their first playoff goal in Tuesday’s 3-0 win.

That came after 23-year-old Justin Florek and 23-year-old Reilly Smith each scored their first playoff goal in Game 2.

NHL Playoff Pick

The Bruins have looked like the far better team through three games, and will not take their foot off the gas with a chance to really put Detroit down in this one. The return of Zetterberg will provide a good sentimental boost to the Red Wings, but little can be expected from a player that’s missed the last eight weeks.

Additionally, the team’s haven’t played to more than five goals yet in this series, with defense dictating the pace. Expect another tight-checking game in which goals are hard to come by.

The Bruins are 14-4 in their last 18 games following a win.

The under is 4-0-1 in the Red Wings’ last five games overall, and 3-0-3 in the Bruins’ last six games overall. The under is also 3-0-1 in the last four meetings between these teams.

The play: Boston -128, Under 5
