The Pens and Wild will meet for the second and final time this season to kick off the back half of the 2014-15 campaign. Pittsburgh has a chance to take hold of first in the Metropolitan Division and the Eastern Conference with a win.

Minnesota is hoping to just get themselves out of the basement in the Central.

Wild

This hasn’t been a good run for the Wild who haven’t been in the playoff picture all year but were at least hanging in there. A 2-6-2 run over their past 10 including a five game losing streak has landed the Wild in last place in the Central Division.

Granted, over that five game streak the Wild played some tough competition with a pair of games against the Chicago Blackhawks, one against the Sharks and one against the Predators, but a 7-1 loss to Dallas should definitely raise some concern.

Defensively this team just doesn’t seem to be itself and the offense has been sporadic at best. The Wild have allowed 22 goals during this five game losing streak and things don’t get any easier tonight against a Pittsburgh team that is loaded with firepower.

Penguins

There’s just something weird about Pittsburgh this season. They have the talent and ability to dominate and look unbeatable on some nights, but they just haven’t been able to maintain a long run of that type of play.

Pittsburgh hasn’t put together a winning streak of more than three games since the first week of November, and as a result they find themselves in a dead heat with the New York Islanders for top spot in the Metropolitan Division. Perhaps this team will turn a corner in the second half and find their stride.

They’ll certainly be buoyed by a character win on Saturday where they trailed a strong Montreal team for the majority of the game before tying it in the third and getting the win in overtime.

The Pens have a tough stretch ahead with a games against the aforementioned Islanders and the surging Rangers so Pittsburgh is going to want to stack some points against a weaker team like Minnesota before two tough divisional match ups.

Wild vs. Penguins 4* Free Pick

It’s hard to get on board with the Wild right now who have been lackluster for nearly two weeks now. All losing streaks have to come to an end at some point though right? Unfortunately going on the road to play a very good Pittsburgh team just doesn’t seem like the night that the Wild will get out of their funk.

Pittsburgh’s offense should just be too much for the Wild to keep up with tonight.

Go with the Penguins.
