Penguins

The Penguins are an impressive 9-1 in their last 10 games while the Habs have won six straight games ahead of Tuesday night’s clash.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are on a roll – winners of nine of their last 10 games, they roll into Montreal to take on the only team hotter than themselves right now.

For the Pens, there is no aspect of their game that isn’t in top form right now – the offense is averaging 3.62 goals per game and the defense is allowing just 2.19 goals per contest this season.

Although the Penguins are scoring goals in bunches, they are doing it largely without the best player on the planet contributing – Sidney Crosby has zero goals in his last eight games. He has recorded 11 assists over that span however.

The load recently has been carried by Patric Hornqvist who has nine goals so far this year and Chris Kunitz who has eight.

Evgeni Malkin has also been very good – he is coming off one goal, one assist effort in a 3-2 win over the Rangers Saturday. Malkin now has seven goals and 12 assists on the year.

That said the Pens will be without one of their better weapons on Tuesday – Pascal Dupuis and his six goals so far will miss the contest due to injury.

Marc-Andre Fleury will get the start between the pipes Tuesday. He is 10-3-0 this year with a very good 2.13 GAA and .925 save percentage.

His numbers versus the Canadiens aren’t great however – he has given up three or more goals in three of his last four starts versus the Habs.

Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens have surged to the top of the NHL standings after an impressive six game road trip – all coming in the last 12 nights. Like the Pens, the offense is clicking and the defense has been clamping down on their opposition as well.

Montreal is averaging 2.68 goals per game this season – respectable when you are playing the type of defense that they are. In their last four games, the Habs’ offense has found another gear scoring 18 goals in those wins.

Alex Galchenyuk has four points in his last two games, Max Pacioretty has five points in three games, PK Subban and Andrei Markov each have three points in their last two games – Subban has scored in consecutive contests, Dale Weiss has four points in three games and Brenden Gallagher has five points in his last five games.

Everyone is contributing offensively for Montreal making them a very dangerous team.

Now for the defense. Montreal has not allowed more than one goal in any of their last six games – all wins obviously.

Carey Price who was rested Sunday night should get the start – he has been scorching. Over his last four starts he’s posted a 4-0-0 record with a sparkling 1.25 GAA and .955 save percentage.

Price has struggled against Pittsburgh however – his life time GAA is 3.03 against the Eastern Conference power.

NHL Gambling Trends

• PIT are 9-1 in their last 10 overall.
• Under is 6-2 in PIT last 8 overall.
• Over is 8-3 in PIT last 11 vs. Atlantic.
• Under is 8-3-3 in MON last 14 overall.
• Under is 44-20-11 in MON last 75 Tue. games.
• MON are 35-16 in their last 51 overall.
• PIT are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings.

This is a tough matchup between two of the best teams in the NHL right now. Interesting to say the least.

Montreal will have all hands on deck and although they figure to be tired after an almost unfair stretch of games I like them to prevail in front of their home town crowd.

Montreal Canadiens +100

The absence of Pascal Dupuis figures to be a huge factor in this one. In an entertaining affair take Montreal to stretch their win streak to seven.
