Calgary has won all three meetings of the season between the two clubs and is an impressive 17-4-1 against Western Division foes this year. The Kings have won two straight games ahead of Thursday night’s clash but were just 1-5-2 in their eight games prior to the mini-streak.

They sit five points behind the Flames in the Western Conference playoff race. Simply put – Thursday night’s game is crucial for the home town squad.

The Calgary Flames have won four of their last five games overall after beating the Shark 4-1 last time out – they are 9-3 in their last 12 games overall and look very much like the Cinderella team of the 2014-2015 NHL season.

Everything is going well for Calgary at the moment – they are getting balanced scoring and some quality goaltending. Thursday night’s starter Jonas Hiller has been especially impressive. He is 5-2-0 with a 1.79 GAA in his last seven starts for Calgary and is 4-0-1 with a 1.95 GAA in his past five against the Kings.

The Flames offense is definitely overachieving. Johnny Gaudreau has led the way and has 17 points in his last 20 games. Gaudreau recorded a hat trick the last time these teams met – LA didn’t seem to have an answer for him in the least.

David Jones and Lance Bouma each have five points in their last five games, Mason Raymond has four points in five game, Kris Russell has three points in four games and TJ Brodie has two points in three games.

Mark Giordano and Juri Hudler, the top two scorers in Calgary’s lineup have been a tad quite lately but the Kings seem to bring the best out in these two players.

The Los Angeles Kings don’t look anything like a team that has won two of the last four Stanley Cups! They are scoring an OK 2.70 goals per game but are surrendering an uncharacteristic 2.58 goals per contest.

Jonathan Quick can takes some of the blame – he has allowed at least three goals in three of his last four starts and has a 2.52 GAA and .909 save percentage on the season.

Calgary seems to be his kryptonite – he is 0-3-1 with a 2.62 GAA in his last four starts against Calgary and given his present form doesn’t seem like a threat to steal a game on Thursday.

Jeff Carter scored his first goal in five games against Columbus on Monday but has been held pointless in three games against Calgary this year – he may not play Thursday after attending a family funeral on the East Coast.

Drew Doughty has just one point in his last four games and there is nobody jumping off the page offensively for Los Angeles right now.

Translation – the Kings look vulnerable right now and face the prospect of playing a team that has owned them all season long.

NHL Gambling Trends

• CAL are 20-7 in their last 27 vs. Pacific.
• Under is 11-4-1 in CAL last 16 road games.
• Under is 9-4 in CAL last 13 games following a win.
• Over is 6-2 in LA last 8 games following a win.
• LA are 2-6 in their last 8 home games.
• Under is 36-14-12 in LA last 62 Thu. games.
• Under is 19-6-2 in the last 27 meetings.
• Road team is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings.

There is nothing like a little confidence to keep a roll going and Calgary is brimming with swagger right now. While the Flames look excited to hit the ice every night the Kings resemble a team beaten down from the grind of a long NHL season.

I’m rolling with Calgary when they are Hot – they are playing with more desperation and more energy than just about any team in the league.
