Team records:
St. Louis: 24-22-9
Chicago: 37-14-4

Tonight, 8:30 p.m. ET
Sportsbook odds: Blues +225, Blackhawks -265

This moneyline intrigued me as I don’t believe I’ve seen a bigger hockey favorite this season than Chicago at -265 tonight. I set out to learn if that line was justified. Here’s what I found:

The powerhouse Hawks save their best for their rivals; they’ve won 10 of their last 11 versus Central Division opponents. The Blues, meanwhile, have lost eight of their last 11 trips to Chicago. St. Louis has been respectably mediocre of late, alternating wins and losses, and it can’t complain about its goaltending from Chris Mason and Ty Conklin. But the Blues just aren’t scoring enough, ranking 26th in the NHL. Leading goal and point getter Andy McDonald has just 35 points in 52 games. Sports Betting at the Sportsbook

To put that in perspective, the Hawks have four players with at least 43 points.

They’re a powerhouse at home and always seem to handle the Blues – they’ve won both meetings by a combined 9-3 margin this season – so they are in fact a justified -265 tonight.

NHL Betting Trends:
