If last year’s playoff performance is anything to go by, then the St. Louis Blues are ready to contend in the NHL. Being in the Central Division could be a blessing in disguise for this young team of hard-working young players. TJ Oshie, Brad Boyes, and David Backes should all be able to continue down the road they were on before being swept by the Canucks in the first round of last season, and they will likely all hit career highs in points.
If Chris Mason’s phenomenal goaltending can’t continue through this season, he’s pushed by new number 2 Ty Conklin for his spot, and really has no choice to perform well. If Conklin takes the spot, he deserves it, and can bring a winning attitude to St. Louis. After all, he’s seen the Stanley Cup Finals twice in the last two years, and must’ve learned more than a few things.
Should the young stars of this team falter, or be held off the scoresheet on a regular basis, the team will underachieve horribly, and perhaps shop for goal scorers near the deadline if they’re still a contender for one of the last playoff spots.
