Point spread, ATS odds, and moneyline betting and preview article for the 2009 Sunday Night Football Week 9 NFL clash between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles…

Sunday Night Football – Eagles Pressure To Force Cowboys Mistakes

Just about a month ago, everyone was question whether Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was worthy of being a starting quarterback. Beyond that, fans were calling for Jason Garrett’s punch card and Wade Phillips head. Now all of the sudden, the Cowboys are playing for first place in the NFC East and have seemingly quieted the haters.

The same can be said for the Philadelphia Eagles, who just a few weeks ago lost outright in Oakland. Now they are also in position to take control of the NFC East with a win.

To be fair, the Cowboys have faced some porous defenses at home in the last couple of weeks and this contest should be much different for them. The Eagles have a defense that blitzes more than anyone in the league and we all know that Romo doesn’t fare well when he has to make quick decisions.

Cowboys offense versus Eagles defense

It’s one thing for the Cowboys to face a couple of the worst pass defenses in the NFL at home in Seattle (18th) and Atlanta (31st). It’s another to face the Eagles.

The Eagles are third in the NFL in sacks (23) and will surely dial up plenty of pressure for Romo.

The Cowboys will have to take a look at the game plan that Oakland used and mix in plenty of runs with Marion Barber, Felix Jones and Tashard Choice.

If the Cowboys can control the game with their running attack, they can keep the Eagles offense on the sidelines. If they aren’t able to run the ball, though, expect a lot of those Eagles blitzes to get home and force some Romo mistakes.

Eagles offense versus Cowboys defense

The Eagles offense has been on fire the last couple of weeks and there is no reason to expect them to quiet down this week. The Cowboys don’t have a lot of speed at the safety position and don’t have anyone that scares you in the secondary, so the Eagles will have many receivers open and running free. The question is will Donovan McNabb have the time to find them.

The Eagles offensive line has been inconsistent this year. In games against New Orleans and Oakland, the front five have been turnstiles. In some of the other wins, the Eagles offensive line has been fantastic. This unit will clearly be the key.

Outlook & Pick
This is a close matchup of two good teams but the difference should be the Eagles defense. The Eagles will throw the kitchen sink at Romo and eventually, it is going to hit him.

He has played mistake-free football over the last few weeks but that will change this Sunday as the Eagles force a couple of turnovers and get the win.

Pick: Eagles -3

One reply on “Week 9 NFL Lines: Cowboys vs. Eagles”

The winner of this game not only gets the outright lead in the NFC East, they would join Minnesota and New Orleans as the elite teams in the NFC. The loser falls back into the pack of wildcard hopefulls. I think the Eagles’ defense will be the difference in this one.
