NFL Sunday Re cap – Saints Slap Chargers in London and Cowboys Break Skid

In last week’s NFL Sunday Re-cap I wrote about how the wheels had fallen off of the New Orleans Saints, San Diego Chargers and Dallas Cowboys. I alerted online sportsbook betting fans to the fact that all three of those teams had become horrible online betting propositions.

The Saints in particular looked as if there was no way for them to turnaround what had become a terrible season. After their loss to the Carolina Panthers, they were told that Reggie Bush would be sidelined for at least a month. Sports betting fans saw that as a death knell to one of the top scoring teams in the NFL. But on Sunday, in London, the Saints proved that they are still a force to be reckoned with.

We will start with the Saints/Chargers game in taking a look at what transpired in the football betting world this past Sunday.

San Diego Chargers vs. New Orleans Saints – – The BetUS online sportsbook NFL odds had the Saints as a 3 point underdog in the London game. What happened? The Saints won straight-up by five points. That made the Saints the toast of London for at least one night. New Orleans proved that they don’t need Reggie Bush in order to be an effective offensive team. They also showed that they can play defense – – in spots – – when called upon. For the Chargers, the loss was a disaster. They made a run for the victory again, like they did last week against Buffalo, but they blew it…again. Online betting fans can’t take the Chargers seriously at this point in the NFL season. Not when they’ve lost five games already.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Dallas Cowboys – – Without a doubt the Cowboys came to play in this game. Facing one of the best defensive teams in the NFL, the Cowboys came through as 1 point favorites in the BetUS online sportsbook. Good for them. For the Bucs, a serious chance at increasing their lead in the NFC South went up in flames when they couldn’t properly manage the clock at the end of the game. Gruden and Co. let one slip away from them. Dallas is still a bad online bet for most NFL betting fans, but at least online sportsbook fans will have to pay attention to them now.

St. Louis Rams vs. New England Patriots – – I wrote that the Rams had a chance to win this game straight-up at a huge + 260 on the moneyline. For a while it looked like I might be a genius, but then the Patriots kicked it in and ended up beating the Rams 23 to 16. That’s okay. The online wagering spread ended up at Rams + 7 ½. That means that the Rams beat the spread. How good are the Patriots’ now? Good enough for me to say that they are worth a few dollars against the spread in most cases from now until the end of the season. Cassel and Moss have finally figured it out.

New York Giants vs. Pittsburgh Steelers – – One game that I did have a strong opinion on was this game. I really thought that the Giants could win this game straight-up at the BetUS online sportsbook betting odds of + 130. Well, they did, but they had to work hard to do it. What this game showed was that if the Steelers really are the team to beat in the AFC Conference, then the AFC is in trouble. The Giants made more mistakes in this game than I’ve seen them make all season and they still pulled out the victory. They ended up beating the Steelers 21 to 14.

Cleveland Browns vs. Jacksonville Jaguars – – One of my prominent NFL handicapping buddies actually had the Jaguars at – 7 as one of the best against the spread online bets this Sunday. Uh…bad call, dude. I actually believed that Cleveland would beat the spread, which they did, and that they had a chance at winning this game outright, which they did. This game doesn’t prove that the Browns are that great or that the Jags are awful. This game just proves that the AFC is down this year.

Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49’ers – – If my memory serves me right, the 49’ers were 5 ½ point favorites in the BetUS online sportsbook to take it to the Seahawks in this game. Somebody forgot to mention that to the Seahawks who obliterated the 49’ers 34 to 14. What was great about this game was how new 49’ers coach Mike Singletary benched Vernon Davis for “lack of interest”. Mike’s going to learn that he’s coaching men in this league. I mean, I love him for trying to make a statement but the 49’ers are still paying Davis around three million a year. You can’t just go around benching players, Mike. The Big-12 this ain’t! Oh, yeah, Texas Tech and Texas from the Big-12 would beat the Seahawks and 49’ers!

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Houston Texans – – Bob McNair, the Texans’ owner, must have been nursing a hangover Sunday morning. On Saturday three horses that he had owned previously, Bob sold them to concentrate on his football team, won million dollar races during the Breeders’ Cup. In fact a horse he formerly owned, Raven’s Pass, brought home the Breeders’ Cup Classic. That race was worth five million dollars. Hey, at least the Texans not only won their game but covered against the BetUS online betting spread by throttling the Bengals 35 to 6. I hope Bob had a ton of money on the Texans to cover!

Buffalo Bills vs. Miami Dolphings – – The BetUS online sportsbook odds makers sure had this one pegged! Even though the Bills were 5 and 1 on the season going into this game, the odds makers made the Dolphins only a + 1 point underdog in this. That meant that they thought the Fins had a chance. The Fins came through big time scoring a nice upset as home dogs. They beat the Bills 25 to 16

Kansas City Chiefs vs. New York Jets – – Brett, Brett, Brett…interception, interception, interception. Brett, what the hell were you doing out there? Okay, the Jets won, 28 to 24, but the BetUS online betting odds were Jets – 14 at home against one of the worst teams in the NFL. They didn’t come close to covering. Shame on you, Brett. Don’t you understand that us BetUS online sportsbook betting fans are counting on you?
