Sunday Football Betting – Execution The Difference Between Texans And Bengals

The Houston Texans and Cincinnati Bengals are more similar than you might think. Both teams have played very tight games this year and both teams have had games decided in the dying second. The difference has been that the Bengals have been smart and successful while the Texans have been sloppy.

The Texans have now blown game-tying opportunities on last-second goal line plays in two of their three losses. Last week, the Texans battled back from 21 points down to tie the game, only to fold like a cheap tent on the goal line in Arizona.

Meanwhile, the Bengals have played close games in four of their five contests but they have managed to win three of them. Overall, they are 4-1 and if they want to truly shake the Bungles tag, they have to take care of business in this game.

Texans offense vs Bengals defense

Like the Tampa Bay Rays, the Bengals defense has finally come to fruition after spending so many high first-round picks on talent. But the Texans have a talented unit of their own that can pretty much score at will.

The key to the Texans offense is running back Steve Slaton. The Texans are always able to pass the ball with Matt Schaub as the trigger man and weapons like Owen Daniels, Andre Johnson and Kevin Walter surrounding him. The difference is that when Slaton is running, he’s keeping opposing defenses honest and he’s bringing the balance to the team. The Texans need to run the ball to have success on the road.

Bengals offense vs Texans defense

Similarly to Houston, the key to the Bengals offense is their newly discovered running attack. Cedric Benson, who nearly signed with the Texans in the offseason, is leading the NFL in rushing and he’s a big reason why the Bengals are in first place in the AFC North.

The Texans rush defense was the worst in the NFL in its firth three games but they have allowed just 89 yards in the last two games. That’s a big turnaround but when you consider who they have played (Oakland and Arizona), those numbers aren’t all that impressive.

Although the Texans defense leads in the NFL in three and outs (22) they are sloppy. They go through phases where they tackle poorly and get caught out of position. Look for a red hot Palmer, Chad Ochocinco and Bengals offense to take advantage.

Outlook & Pick
The old Bengals would come out half asleep in this game after three straight division wins but this is revenge for them. Last year, the Bengals were run off the field by the Texans as the Carson Palmer-less Bengals were routed 35-6. The Bengals are looking to be the first team in franchise history to lose their opener and then reel off five straight wins. They’ll get the job done with a focused effort on Sunday against the road weary Texans, who are playing their second of back-to-back road games.

Pick: Bengals -5
