Week 6 NFL Lines: MNF Broncos vs. Chargers

Point spread, ATS odds, and moneyline betting and preview article for the 2009 Monday Night Football Week 6 NFL clash between the Denver Broncos and the San Diego Chargers…

Monday Night Football – Broncos Need One More Win To Prove They Are For Real

The Denver Broncos have been impressive to this point in the season – there is no debating that. Similar to the New England Patriots of yesteryear, they have played smart football and done just enough to win each and every week. Quarterback Kyle Orton has just one turnover, the offense is functional and the defense has been stellar.

But keep in mind that the Broncos have played three home games and have yet to really be tested on the road.

Now the Broncos head out to face the San Diego Chargers, which is their main competition in the division. The Chargers are rested, coming off a bye week and now we’ll really find out if the Broncos will have a challenge in their division or if they’ll cruise to the playoffs. If the Broncos can win in San Diego, they should be a considered a Super Bowl contender. If they lose, we’ll have to reevaluate and see where they stand after the game.

Broncos offense vs Chargers defense

The Broncos offense is efficient and it could be a big thorn in the side of the Chargers this Monday. As mentioned above, the Broncos offense is very similar to the offense that Tom Brady took over in New England when he first started. Orton just makes good, smart throws, moves the chains and puts his team in position to score. At worst, they punt it away and give their defense a chance.

The Broncos are a +6 on the turnover ratio and they are very confident right now. We’ll see if that keeps going as their schedule gets tough in the coming weeks.

Chargers offense vs Broncos offense

The Chargers offense clearly has more upside, more playmaking ability and more flash than the Broncos. The problem is that right now, they aren’t playing as well as they can.

Quarterback Philip Rivers looks like he’s going to be on an island for a second year in a row as LaDainian Tomlinson simply looks incapable of being anything more than a four-yard per carry back.

It will be interesting to see how the Chargers respond after their bye week. Throughout the Norv Turner era, they have played very poorly in September but turned it on in the following months. They know what’s at stake in this game and they are probably going to bring their best effort against their biggest division rival at home.

Outlook & Pick
The Chargers know what’s on the line in this game. They are already three games back in the standings and this is a must win for them if they want any hope of winning this division.

Coming off a bye week, look for the Chargers to look really crisp and look for the Broncos to look a little sluggish coming off an emotional win. On the road, the Broncos will get exposed a little bit and start the “I told you so” chatter with their first loss of the season.

Pick: Chargers -3.5

If sd doesn’t start sticking the receivers at the line they will get burned all day long. I can see that from houston. Yes I am a die hard charger fan. ( Oceanside ).
