Week 2 NFL Lines: Seahawks vs. 49ers

Point spread, ATS odds, and moneyline betting and preview article for the 2009 Sunday afternoon Football Week 2 NFL clash between the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers…

Sunday NFL Betting – Seahawks Will Proclaim Their Return To Top Of West

The Seattle Seahawks have been the team to beat in the NFC West throughout this decade and after an injury-ravaged season, they are ready to take their crown back.

The Arizona Cardinals may not wear the crown for very long, especially not if they continue to play like they did in Week 1. The San Francisco 49ers went into the University of Phoenix Stadium and upended the NFC Champs.

With the Cardinals out of the way – at least for the time being – the 49ers and Seahawks will battle for the top spot in the West. While home field advantage does level this playing field, the Seahawks quarterbacking should be the difference.

Seahawks offense vs 49ers defense

Normally, the Seahawks offense should dominate this matchup but a couple of factors are evening things out. For starters, the 49ers defense is pretty good and they play even better when they are at home. Also, the Seahawks have a number of injuries, including a back injury that may limit or keep T.J. Houshmanzadeh out of this game.

Even so, the Seahawks have plenty of weapons. A healthy Matt Hasselbeck makes a world of difference for the Seahawks and given the way Nate Burleson and John Carlson looked in the opener, the Seahawks should be ok for a week without Whosyourmama.

The Seahawks probably won’t be able to run the ball this week so they’ll have to rely on Hasselbeck and the short passing game to get the job done. The good news is they might not need a lot of points to do it.

49ers offense vs Seahawks defense

The 49ers offense is limited because of quarterback Shaun Hill but they got the job done in week one using smoke and mirrors. They’ll have to do the same in Week 2.

Not many people have taken notice, but the Seattle Seahawks have a very underrated defense. Last week, the 49ers won without much production out of Frank Gore and they’ll either have to get more out of him or do the same thing again.

The Seahawks will put all of their efforts in stuffing him but without LeRoy Hill this week and a hampered Lofa Tatupu, the 49ers might be able to do enough on the ground to get the win.

Outlook & Pick

There is no question that the Seahawks are the better team in this contest, as evidenced by the opening line. The sportsbook odds makers made them a one-point favorite but the public still doesn’t believe they are as they bet the 49ers into favoritism.

The 49ers might be able to win this game, though. The Seahawks are banged up and might be without a few contributors – or they might play with them but just not at 100%.

Look for Frank Gore to get his wheels in motion as the 49ers pull out a close, defensive contest and take the early lead in the NFC West.

Pick: 49ers -1
