NFL Game Summaries – Week 16 Capsule Matchups

Week 16 in the NFL is in the books. The Weisguy takes over for Matt and offers up these recaps for your NFL viewing pleasure.

Indianapolis 19 – Houston 16
The Colts are now refusing to lose while the Texans are showing us they can’t win.  Colts may have played themselves out of the top pick.Cincinnati 23 – Arizona 17
The Bengals took a huge step towards securing a playoff berth by cooling the Cardinals.  Am I insane for thinking that Andy Dalton deserves some consideration for MVP?

New York Giants 29 – New York Jets 14
This was far from a pretty game but the Giants made all the big plays en route to victory.  I hope fantasy players didn’t shy away from Victor Cruz who snagged a 99 yard TD pass to tie the record.

Tennessee 23 – Jacksonville 17
It was hardly inspiring but the Titans live to see another day with the victory.  Jared Cook might have won a fantasy league for someone with his monster day – 169 yards and a TD.

New England 27 – Miami 24
The Dolphins had the Pats right where they wanted them winning 17-0 at the half.  Brady turned it on in the second half as the Patriots scored 27 straight points to maintain their lead in the AFC.

Baltimore 20 – Cleveland 14
The Ravens should have crushed the Browns and didn’t…at least they did get the victory to maintain their spot in the pecking order of the AFC.  Seneca Wallace got the start for Cleveland, remember him.

Oakland 16 – Kansas City 13
Hard fought game eliminates the Chiefs and gives new life to the Raiders.  Raiders didn’t deserve to win being outgained by 150 yards on offense.

Minnesota 33 – Washington 26
I knew the Skins would be ripe for the upset after beating the Giants the week before.  Minnesota may have lost the services of Adrian Peterson but they won the game for the first time in  a while.

Carolina 48 – Tampa Bay 16
Cam Newton sets the rookie passing record and has some nifty runs.  The Bucs lay another huge egg as they turn the ball over 4 times. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Buffalo 40 – Denver 14
Tim Tebow has his worst game as a pro as the Broncos slip again.  The Bills remind themselves that if they win the turnover battle they actually have a chance at winning the game too.

Pittsburgh 27 – St. Louis 0
Even without Ben Roethlisberger the Steelers had an easy day against the Rams.  The running game was solid and the venerable Charlie Batch didn’t make too many mistakes.

Detroit 38 – San Diego 10
This was a huge win for the Lions as they clinch a playoff berth in front of their home fans.  Speaking of huge, Megatron was at it again ripping off some big chunks of yardage.  Stafford was awesome too.

Philadelphia 20 – Dallas 7
It should come as no surprise that this Dallas team folded when it mattered.  This time they have an excuse though with Tony Romo leaving the game early and the chance to get into the playoffs with a win next week.

San Francisco 19 – Seattle 17
More evidence that the NFC West is not as weak as everyone originally thought.  Marshawn Lynch has been fabulous the entire second half and ran on the 49ers like few have all season.

Green Bay 35 – Chicago 21
It was a sluggish start by Green Bay but Aaron Rodgers continued to add to his MVP credentials with 5 TD tosses.  Josh McCown was only slightly better Caleb Hanie.

New Orleans 45 – Atlanta 16
It was a banner day for the Saints, Drew Brees broke Marino’s record, they clinched the division and beat Atlanta for the second time this season.  They are playing like the best team in the league right now.
