NFL Game Summaries – Week 15 Capsule Matchups

Week 15 in the NFL is in the books. The Weisguy takes over for Matt and offers up these recaps for your NFL viewing pleasure.

Atlanta 41 – Jacksonville 14
The only surprise from this one is that it took the Falcons this deep into the season to show us the kind of performance they were capable of.  Props to MJD for another spectacular season.

Carolina 28 – Houston 13
The Texans were due for a letdown but rookie Cam Newton is also showing some finishing strength for the Panthers.  He was efficient and easily outplayed fellow rookie pivot T.J. Yates.

Miami 30 – Buffalo 23
The Bills struggles continue.  I don’t know what is worse, their current losing streak or that they made Reggie Bush look like he was back at USC with a 203 yard performance.

Indianapolis 27 – Tennessee 13
You would think that it would take more than 82 yards passing for the Colts to finally win but it didn’t.  Donald Brown rushed for 160 and a defensive score made it nice day at the office for Indy, finally.

Cincinnati 20 – St. Louis 13
It was a day of upsets but the Bengals avoided that fate.  They were down by three at the half but owned the third quarter to take the game.  They are still in the race, for now.

Seattle 38 – Chicago 14
I wouldn’t call this one an upset but it is surprising how Seattle exploded for 31 unanswered second half points.  Even if they didn’t score twice on defense they still would have had enough to win.

New Orleans 42 – Minnesota 20
Don’t look now but Drew Brees is on a pace to eclipse Dan Marino’s passing record.  He is especially sharp indoors as Vikings fans found out.  They put up a whopping 573 yards of total offense including 160+ on the ground. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Kansas City 19 – Green Bay 14
Aaron Rodgers has never looked so bad as he did at Arrowhead on Sunday.  I suppose the team was due for a slip-up so better now than in the playoffs.  Kudos to Chiefs for not mailing it in.

Washington 23 – New York Giants 10
With everything to play for and cozy at home, the Giants came up with a stinker of a performance against Washington.  Now they are back in the hole regarding playoffs.  They had more yards on offense but let the Skins control the ball for 10 minutes more.

Detroit 28 – Oakland 27
A well played game overall.  The Raiders might have cost themselves the season by not being able to stop Detroit in the last 5 minutes.  Monster game by Matt Stafford with 4TDs and close to 400 yards through the air.

Arizona 20 – Cleveland 17
Those feisty Cardinals just won’t quit.  No one should over celebrate a win over the Browns but clearly this team is not as bad as originally advertised.  And they are making their run with a backup QB to boot.

Philadelphia 45 – New York Jets 19
When the Eagles are right it is hard to say that anybody is much better.  When the Jets are wrong, as they mostly are in the road, this team is far from a Super Bowl contender.  Believe or not the Eagles can still make the playoffs.

New England 41 – Denver 23
The Broncos were due for a comeuppance and who better to provide it than Brady and the Pats.  Pats took over top spot in the AFC with relatively easy road victory at Mile High.

San Diego 34 – Baltimore 14
Perhaps the most shocking upset of the week as the desperate Chargers spank the Ravens.  Chargers still have an outside shot at a playoff berth.

San Francisco 20 – Pittsburgh 3
It was a pretty impressive display by the 49ers.  Sure Big Ben might have been hobbling but after picking him off in the end zone they were in complete control of the game.  This is one physical team.
