NFL Week 1 Underdogs Worth Gambling On From Cappers Picks

2014 NFL Week 1 Betting?

The start of the NFL season is still a couple of month away, but there are already lines on the board, and the alert bettor is always on the lookout for value, even if that means waiting a little while to cash their tickets.

Here are five Week 1 underdogs worthy of a closer look: Odds courtesy [dfads params=’groups=63740&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Oakland Raiders +4.5 at New York Jets

The Jets were grossly underestimated a year ago, and that may be the case again this season, but the same is true of the Raiders this season. The team made some significant improvements in the offseason, even if the parts they brought in may not have much of a shelf life.

The Raiders’ defense doesn’t get the respect it deserves, and it should only be better with Lamarr Woodley added to the mix. A motivated and determines Maurice Jones-Drew is always a good thing to have on your side, and Matt Schaub will also be playing with a chip on his shoulder. Rex Ryan won’t have much more than preseason tape to break down this offense.

Cincinnati Bengals +2.5 at Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens have been really good on their home field in the John Harbaugh-era, but there was a definite changing of the guard in the AFC North last season. The Bengals will be hungry to open this season by making a statement in this contest.

The Ravens’ offense also enters with some major questions, most of which surround Ray Rice, who may not even be eligible to suit up for this contest. Not the recipe for success against a solid Bengal defense.

Washington Redskins +2.5 at Houston Texans

The Redskins enter this upcoming season with plenty of reason for optimism. While the franchise has plenty to deal with off the court regarding its name, the product on the field should be much better.

The team has a new head coach, Robert Griffin III is back in the fold, and DeSean Jackson will line up opposite Pierre Garcon in what could be the fastest offense in the NFL. That outside speed is going to mean additional interior running lanes for bruising back Alfred Morris.

The Texans, meanwhile, are coming off a season in which they finished with the worst record in the league, and hope to turn things around with Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback. Even Andre Johnson wants no part of that.

New York Giants +4 at Detroit Lions

The public’s perception of the Lions has changed in a big way since their playoff season a couple of years ago. The front office’s perception obviously hasn’t changed all that much, or the team wouldn’t be debuting a new head coach.

An off year for the Giants a year ago, but they enter this season with a new defensive secondary that will look to prove itself against a potent Lion offense. Eli Manning also hopes to rebound from a down year, and he would love to get off to a hot start under the Monday night lights.

San Diego Chargers +3.5 at Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals won 10 games a year ago, but that was because plenty of their opponents overlooked them. That won’t be a concern for the Chargers in this one – the season opener on a Monday night.

Let’s not give the Cardinals too much respect here.’
