NFL Handicapping – Titans vs Vikings Betting Spread / Matchup

The Vikings (3-1) are off to a surprising start and they have won 2 straight and are tied with the Bears atop the NFC North. The Titans (1-3) have really struggled on defense this season, as they only rank 27th in the league both defending the pass and defending the run.

Tennessee Titans vs. Minnesota Vikings Preview

Their offense may have to bail them out and after a really bad start Chris Johnson had a great game last week. NFL lines have the Vikings as 5.5-point favorites with a total of 44.

In their last games the Vikings beat the Detroit Lions 20-13 while the Titans lost to the Houston Texans 38-14.

On the season the Titans are 1-3 ATS with an Over/Under record of 3-1 and the Vikings are 2-2 ATS with an Over/Under record of 1-3.

Johnson rushed for 141 yards last week and that was facing a solid Houston defense. He has another tall task in this game, as the Vikings have a solid run defense ranking 7th in the league. Also, he may have to play well with backup Matt Hasselbeck starting because the injury to Jake Locker.

Hasselbeck was pretty good last season and he has experience and Nate Washington and Jared Cook each has at least 100 receiving yards. The Vikings pass defense ranks 14th in the league and they have a good pass rush with 12 sacks on the season.

Christian Ponder has not put up huge numbers this season, but he managing games well and he has yet to throw an INT. While his WR corps is not a great one at least he will be facing a weak Tennessee pass defense and he will have time to exploit that since the Titans rank near the bottom of the league with only 6 sacks in 4 games. Adrian Peterson has bounced back form his knee injury from last season and last week he had his first 100+ yard rushing game of the season. With the weakness of the Tennessee run defense Peterson will get a lot of touches in this game and if the Titans cannot contain him they will not win.

While star Titans’ WR Kenny Britt is a question mark for this game LB Colin McCarthy may return after missing the last 3 games with an ankle injury.

In some betting trends for this non-conference match up the 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall, 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 road games, and they have an Over record of 4-1-1 in their last 6 games.

The Vikings are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games, 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a losing road record, and they have an Under record of 4-1 in their last 5 games.

Jason’s Pick: I don’t think this game will be a blowout and Johnson will have another big game, but the Titans’ defense will be their downfall and the Vikings will win and cover the spread.
