Steelers vs. Eagles Week 3 Preseason Odds & NFL Betting Free Pick

NFL Preseason Week 3 – Pittsburgh vs Philadelphia

The Pittsburgh Steelers (1-1) beat the Bills (19-16) last week at Heinz Field. The Philadelphia Eagles (0-2) offense looked great last week, but the defense was horrendous in a loss to the Patriots (42-35).

Ben Roethlisberger played the 1st quarter against Buffalo and completed 8/11 passes for 128 yards and 2 TD’s. Antonio Brown looked in midseason form, as he caught two passes for 93 yards and 1 TD.

The run game in Pittsburgh is going to be a weakness. Pittsburgh gained 35 rushing yards on 18 carries (1.9 YPC). Le’Veon Bell looked fine in limited action, but Blount and Archer struggled.

Pittsburgh lacks depth, which is a problem in the preseason. Once the starters come out the Steelers offense is nonexistent. Last week Gradkowski and Landry each threw an interception.

I thought the Steelers played good defense against the Bills. They allowed 358 total yards, but only gave up 4.3 YPP. The defense was able to force four turnovers and had four sacks in the game.

Pittsburgh should have dominated the Bills, but the offense couldn’t stay on the field after the starters were taken out after the 1st quarter. Will Pittsburgh’s offense be able to keep up with Philadelphia?

The Eagles gained 413 total yards, but it was in a losing effort. Nick Foles, Mark Sanchez and Matt Barkley combined to go 28/34 for 324 yards, 4 TD’s and 2 INT’s. It’s safe to say the QB position is fine.

LeSean McCoy only averaged 3.2 YPC (6 Carries), but Henry Josey looked good, as he averaged 7.0 YPC (8 Carries). Jordan Matthews was targeted nine times and hauled in 9 catches for 104 yards.

I don’t think this Eagles offense will skip a beat without DeSean Jackson. Chip Kelly has problems on the defensive unit again this year though. Against NE the Eagles allowed 476 total yards.

The Patriots rushed for 250 rushing yards (5.4 YPC) against the Eagles. Pittsburgh won’t have that type of success on the ground, but the Eagles are in trouble if the front seven doesn’t toughen up.

Recent NFL Betting Trends:

  • Over is 4-1 in Steelers last 5 games overall.
  • Over is 4-1 in Eagles last 5 Thursday games.
  • Eagles are 6-21-1 ATS in their last 28 home games.
  • Under is 6-2 in Eagles last 8 home games.

Steelers vs. Eagles Preseason Picks

How long will the Steelers starters play this week? I don’t expect them to be in the game for too long and once they come out the offense will struggle to move the football even against a poor Philly defense.

The Steelers have been playing well defensively this preseason and they should continue to improve this week. Pittsburgh has been trying to work on their run game and we should see a lot of run plays.

Both teams are going to want to play well on TNF, as every NFL fan will be watching the game. My best bet in the game is on the under 50 points, but I also like the Steelers to cover the +3.5 spread.

Bet on Under 50 Points (-110)
