He was actually third in the league in rushing yards last year. He was able to stay healthy more than he has in the past.

The biggest change for the Seahawks team was quarterback Russell Wilson. Wilson was only a third round draft pick, but he looked like a first-round pick on the field. Carroll had a lot of guts to start Wilson from the get go, because Matt Flynn was assumed by everyone to be the man. Carroll went with the youngster and the decision paid off in a huge way. Wilson threw for 3,118 yards and 26 touchdowns, and he ran for 489 yards and four scores. So far, Wilson looks like the best value pick from last year’s draft class. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Seattle’s run defense was one of the best in the NFL last year, and the pass defense was pretty solid as well. The Seahawks had one of the best defenses in the league. If there was a weak spot on this defense, it was their inability to pressure the quarterback in key moments of the game.

Though Seattle did make great strides last year, they didn’t rest in the offseason. The Seahawks made a big move to bring in Percy Harvin. Harvin will fill the role of play maker, and that should do a ton for everyone on this offense. Lynch and Wilson should both be much better players because of Harvin’s versatility. Sidney Rice and Golden Tate are developing at the wideout spots, and they’ll get more one on one coverage this year as well.

Seattle drafted Christine Michael to give the team more depth in the backfield. The Seahawks also drafted Jordan Hill from Penn State to plug the middle of the line as a strong defensive tackle. Chris Harper could prove to be a nice value pick, and he has the ability to get on the field early at wide receiver.

Seattle wasn’t that far away last year, and there is no denying that this team got better in the offseason. There is no clear dominant team in the NFC, and a path to the Super Bowl is definitely feasible for Seattle. Don’t forget that the Seahawks have what is probably the best home crowd in the NFL.
