Season Win Totals NFL Predictions – New York Giants 2014 Odds

Giants Over / Under Season Wins

The Giants didn’t exactly hit rock bottom last season but it was definitely a disappointment.

Over Under Lines

Over 8 (-130)
Under 8 (-110)

Eli Manning was terrible, turning the ball over like a rookie, instead of a 10 year vet. He was not helped by a rushing offense that was near the bottom of the league.

The defense was solid but they were put in so many bad situations ultimately they gave up more points than their yardage would have indicated.

All that negativity and they were still just 7-9.

New York dumped long time offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride – how could they not – and brought in a guy from the Green Bay Packers program.  There will be new personnel on offense too with Hakeem Nicks gone and Rashad Jennings in the mix in the backfield.

They also made a significant effort to upgrade the secondary with the additions of Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who automatically becomes their top cornerback. They also made some upgrades to get their return game going in the form of Trindon Holliday.

I am all for strong special teams but when you make that a priority in free agency your team is not in good shape.

Projected Win Total:  4

The Giants could be improved this year but their schedule is going to be a challenge.

They are no better than third best in the NFC East and have to take on the NFC West, the strongest division in all of football. They are likely to drop all four of those game and when you thrown in home dates against Indy and a road trip to Detroit and there are just not too many wins out there.

Atlanta could be improved too.

Key to Season:

This might be a little silly but the key to their season is probably the health of Redskins QB Robert Griffin III. If he is not right maybe they Giants take those games and build a little momentum.

Otherwise I think the final week of the season hosting Philly is going to be a spoiler role only.

For me this is a very obvious under play.

I might be being overly harsh but I have yet to read or see anyone who is particularly bullish on the Giants coming into this season – a lot of experts and math guys have them around 6 wins which still gets you a payoff at the end of the season.

I don’t normally go with under but this seems like the right way to play this one.
