Season Win Totals NFL Predictions – Miami Dolphins 2014 Lines

Dolphins Over / Under Season Wins

After finishing the 2013 season with an overall record of 8-8, the Miami Dolphins will aim to put together a third straight season in which they will try and increase their win total from the previous year.

And while an 8-game win record wasn’t enough to get the Fins into the playoffs for the first time since 2008, it did put an end to four straight losing seasons.

Just the fact that Miami was able to win half of its games without the services of starting left tackle Jonathan Martin and guard Richie Incognito who missed half the season, was a major accomplishment, and a lot of credit has to go to head coach Joe Philbin for keeping this team together.

With most of the off the field drama behind them, Dolphins fans will expect their team to end to their postseason drought in 2014.

But can they win more than the current eight games they are expected to win?
The Dolphins have revamped their roster on both sides of the ball for 2014, which includes some moves along an offensive line that allowed a league-worst 58 sacks last year.

That same line was the biggest reason why Miami also ranked just 26th in rushing at 90.0 ypg.

Lacking depth, Miami spent a small fortune on free agent left tackle Branden Albert and first round pick Ja’Wuan James, who are both expected to improve the Fins front five.

Unfortunately, though, Pro Bowl Center Mike Pouncey will likely miss the first eight weeks of the season, which is definitely going to be a big blow after all the team did to improve this unit.

Still it will be better than what it was a year ago, and should allow third-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill the time needed to improve his passing game.

Even with all of the offensive line woes last year, Tannehill still managed to throw for impressive 3,913 yards and 24 touchdowns with 17 interceptions.

Miami is also hoping that an improved O-line will better its running game, which returns their top two rushers from last year in Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas. The Fins also added veteran Knowshon Moreno, who had over 1,500 yards and 13 touchdowns with the Broncos in 2013.

Defensively the Dolphins lost some key pieces, but return a couple of Pro Bowlers in defensive tackle Randy Starks and defensive end Cameron Wake. And while the unit still has a lot of potential, the chances are it won’t be as good as last season.

Matt’s Free Prediction — OVER

There are a lot of question marks surrounding the Dolphins heading into the 2014 season, which makes it difficult to predict where they will finish and how many wins they will accumulate.

However, if the new additions to the offensive line live up to their potential, I expect the Fins to be right in the thick of things in the AFC East with a 9-7 season.
