Season Win Totals NFL Predictions – Cleveland Browns 2014 Lines

Browns Season Win Totals

The Cleveland Browns went 4-12 last season and finished in last place in the AFC North. They ended the season on a 7-game losing streak. Will Johnny Manziel be able to work his magic in Cleveland?

Cleveland hasn’t had a winning record since 2007 when they went 10-6. Since that time the Browns have won 4 or 5 games each season. There is now some hope in Cleveland now that Manziel has arrived.

Mike Pettine has taken over as the head coach for Cleveland this season and he has been tight lipped on whether Manziel will start week 1 as the starting QB. Currently, Brian Hoyer is first on the depth chart.

It’s honestly up in the air who will start at QB for the Browns and anyone who says differently at this point in time is a liar. I expect both QB’s to get playing time this season, which will pose problems.

The plan may be to ease Manziel into action, as he’s the future of the organization right now. Cleveland is unlikely to finish with a .500 record this season, so taking some pressure on Manziel is smart.

Josh Gordon may miss the entire 2014 season because of his off-field antics. This leaves Cleveland without their top WR from last year. Last season Gordon led the entire NFL in receiving yards (1646).

With Gordon out for at least part of the season the Browns will struggle to air it out. The Browns have a formidable TE in Jordan Cameron who finished 2nd on the team with 917 receiving yards last year.

The problem is at WR. They picked up Miles Austin, Andrew Hawkins and Nate Burleson in the off-season, but these guys aren’t going to turn this team around. In fact, only Hawkins is interesting to me.

At RB the Browns have improved by drafting Terrance West and signing Ben Tate. West needs some time to develop, but Tate is ready to go. He isn’t a top 10 RB, but he’s an improvement over McGahee.

The o-line is also strong with the likes of Alex Mack, Joe Thomas and rookie Joel Bitonio. Defensively, the Browns will be stronger, especially at secondary, but there are still problems with the front seven.

Joe Haden and Justin Gilbert will make a great tandem at CB. Losing T.J Ward hurts, but Donte Whitner will fill in fine. What the Browns really need is an elite pass rusher to get to the QB.

2014 Cleveland Browns Season Win Betting Prediction

Bet on Under 6.5 Wins (+130)

This team is a work in progress still, but getting better. This isn’t the year though. They’ll be bottom in the AFC North again and at +130 odds I really think there is value on betting the under 6.5 wins.

If the Browns can keep the talent they’ve been stockpiling and add a few pieces over the next year or two at positions of need they may be a playoff contender, but expect more misery from the Browns.
