Washington Redskins vs. New Orleans Saints Preview

The Redskins and new QB Robert Griffin III hope so, as the rookie gets his first career start against he Saints in their house. NFL lines have the Saints as 8.5-point home favorites with a total of 50.5.

The Redskins looked good in the preseason winning 3 of their 4 games while the Saints lost 3 of their last 5 preseason games.

Last season the Redskins were 7-9 ATS with an Over/Under record of 7-8-1 and the Saints were 12-4 ATS with an Over/Under record of 9-7.

The RG3 era begins for the Skins and the team went out and got him some help signing free agents Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan. These guys with TE Fred Perry should give Washington a decent corps of receivers and they will be facing a weak New Orleans secondary that was torched last season.

The Skins have several RB’s to man the backfield and they just need to stay healthy and they need to pick up some yards on the ground to take pressure off their rookie QB. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Saints have the best passing attack in the league with a stacked WR corps and one of the best TE’s in the league in Jimmy Graham. The Skins’ pass defense was decent last season, but they are in a new system and keeping Brees from lighting them up is a tall task.

While the Saints are known for their passing attack their rushing offense is solid and ranked 6th in the league last year in rushing yards per game. Darren Sproles and Pierre Thomas give the Saints a solid ground game. London Fletcher will lead the defense again and Washington is hoping that LB Brian Orakpo can play, as he is coming back from a shoulder surgery.

In some betting trends for this conference match up the Redskins are 2-3 ATS in their last 5 away games and they have an Over record of 5-1-1 in their last 7 games.

The Saints are 8-0 ATS in their last 8 games, 3-1 in their last 4 home games, and they have an Over record of 5-0 in their last 5 games.

In the last 6 meetings between these 2 teams the posted total has gone Over 5 times.

Jason’s Pick: I think RG3 will have a good debut in the Big Easy, but the Redskins’ defense will not be able to keep up with Brees. However, something tells me the Skins will keep it close and they will cover the 8.5-point spread.
