NFL Predictions: Bears Super Bowl XLIX Betting Lines & 2014 Preview

Chicago Bears – 2015 Super Bowl Chances

The Chicago Bears enter the season looking to break the box of mediocrity they have been for the last few seasons. At times, when the offense is clicking they look every bit the equal of Green Bay, but they inevitably struggle down the stretch to collect the wins they should.

Coach Marc Trestman looks like he belongs in the league now he has to prove he is a winner and not just an offensive guru. Cappers Picks provides free NFL football handicapping tips all season long.

2014 Chicago Bears Preview

Bears 2013 Record: 8-8
Bears Betting Odds to win NFC North: 13/4
Bears Betting Lines to win Super Bowl XLIX: 28/1

Key additions:

DE Jared Allen

Key Loss:

QB Josh McCown

Bears Strengths

Though it may play against historical type the Bears are one of the better passing teams in the league thanks to a superb set of starting wide receivers.

Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery are the most physically imposing set of receivers in the league and they make QB Jay Cutler look good.

The defensive line should suffer the loss of Julius Peppers just fine thanks to the acquisition of sack master Jared Allen and Lamarr Houston. Allen will make sure the Bears continue to supply pressure on QBs while Houston is a proven run stopper.

The line is the best unit on the defense.

Matt Forte is one of the best and most versatile running backs in the league. He is a threat running and receiving and is coming off a great season – maybe his best ever. They added an accomplished college runner in Ka’Deem Carey from Arizona in the draft who can help grind out yards when the team is in the lead.

Bears Weaknesses

I know the top line numbers may tell a different story but I still think that Cutler is far from elite. He doesn’t always make the wrong read at the worst time but until he leads a team deep into the playoffs I feel no need to give him the benefit of the doubt. The backups are completely uninspiring so they gave him some big bucks.

Linebacker used to be the strength of this team but this year they might be counting a little too heavily on some players whose best years are behind them.

Lance Briggs and D.J. Williams have excellent resumes but they both have injury histories and are on the wrong side of 30.

They need them to be elite and that might be too much to ask.

The Bears depth took a serious hit in depth this offseason. Losing QB Josh McCown is the most obvious loss but they also lost key players along the defensive line and RB Michael Bush, a valuable short yardage guy. This is an older team with nice lineup but not much underneath their starters.

That could be very troublesome.

The Bears missed a golden opportunity last season. The NFC north was there for the taking but they couldn’t take advantage. Coming into this season some of the faces have changed but they are pretty much in the same place they were a year ago.

As a result I don’t see them improving much on their record of a year ago.

This is still likely to be a strong over team again in 2014. Their offense is very good and they will definitely participate in some shoot outs.
