NFL Predictions: Browns Super Bowl XLIX Betting Lines & 2014 Preview

Cleveland Browns – 2015 Super Bowl Chances

There are so many story lines with the Cleveland Browns it is hard to know where to start. Josh Gordon? Johnny Manziel? The fact that this team can never seem to get it right?

How about all of the above?

Even if Gordon played and Manziel was the starter I am not sure how much their prospects would really change even if they had those guys contributing but without them things are kind of bleak heading into the season.

All that Cleveland love dried up pretty fast.

Browns Strengths

I like the way this team is looking to establish their defense first and love their cornerbacks. Joe Haden is already an established commodity back there but they doubled up in taking Justin Gilbert in the first round and not they, ought have the best set of corners in the league.

Gilbert has size and is a playmaker.

Cameron Jordan is in that elite group if athletic tight ends but I am worried on how he is going to fare with Gordon to open up things up underneath.  Even still he is going to be the top option for whoever is at QB. He will make his fair share of catches this season but not as many big plays unless somebody else steps up in support.

Believe it or not the Browns may have the best offensive line in the division. LT Joe Thomas and C Alex Mack might be the best at their positions in the whole NFL and they form the foundation for a very good group.

Whoever is under centre is not going to be able to complain too much about getting blindsided with this group.

Browns Weaknesses

I think that drafting Johnny Manziel was a reach and there was a reason that nobody really wanted Brian Hoyer to be a starting QB in the NFL until last year. Putting them together does not make for a very promising outlook at the quarterback position and it is near impossible to win regularly if you are not getting good production there.

It is now confirmed that Josh Gordon is going to miss the entire season. That means the Browns are projected to have the likes of Miles Austin and Nate Burleson as their starting receivers. Both are pros but not nearly the threats they used to be.

If the Browns do not have a threat down the field it is going to be hard to move the ball.

The Browns have absolutely no momentum heading into this season. Gordon is gone, Manziel proved that he is anything but ready and so it goes the same old story about the Browns. This is supposed to be a new regime but everything looks way too familiar to me.

There is no spark to this team and it probably won’t come until they throw Johnny Football in there.

Cleveland Browns NFL 2014 Prediction: 3-13

2014 Browns NFL Schedule:

  • 1. September 7 1:00PM ET @ Pittsburgh Steelers
  • 2. September 14 1:00PM ET New Orleans Saints
  • 3. September 21 1:00PM ET Baltimore Ravens
  • 4. Bye Week
  • 5. October 5 1:00PM ET @ Tennessee Titans
  • 6. October 12 1:00PM ET Pittsburgh Steelers
  • 7. October 19 1:00PM ET @ Jacksonville Jaguars
  • 8. October 26 4:25PM ET Oakland Raiders
  • 9. November 2 1:00PM ET Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • 10. November 6 8:25PM ET @ Cincinnati Bengals
  • 11. November 16 1:00PM ET Houston Texans
  • 12. November 23 1:00PM ET @ Atlanta Falcons
  • 13. November 30 1:00PM ET @ Buffalo Bills
  • 14. December 7 1:00PM ET Indianapolis Colts
  • 15. December 14 1:00PM ET Cincinnati Bengals
  • 16. December 21 1:00PM ET @ Carolina Panthers
  • 17. December 28 1:00PM ET @ Baltimore Ravens

It might be hard to fathom but I think the Browns are going to backslide this season. Look for them to get totally destroyed in the opener at Pittsburgh and probably not get their first win until week 7 at Jacksonville, and even that is no gimme.

They might be able to cover some numbers thanks to a pretty solid defense but I wouldn’t expect too much.

I don’t know when it will be but take the over when Manziel gets his first shot. He will either be awesome or terrible in that first bit of action.
