Football season is finally upon us as Week 1 approaches. This might not be real football just yet, but we are getting closer.
Optimism is eternal as we get set for the first preseason games of 2015.
The Steelers have the advantage coming into this one of having already gotten loose in a preseason game. They endured a loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the Hall of Fame Game, but they were able to get out some of the kinks and finally begin hitting players on other teams.
In the contest against Baltimore, Landry Jones took all of the snaps, tossing 32 passes for 135 yards and no scores. He also avoided tossing any interceptions.
Against Jacksonville, we should see Ben Roethlisberger play, but as you’d expect, not much. Don’t think he’ll see much time, if any, late in the contest even if it’s close.
We should also see a bit of time from Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown after both saw zero minutes against the Ravens.
The Jaguars have not been good in the recent past. They have a combined nine wins over the past three seasons, and they’re hoping that this is the year they can finally take a legitimate step in the right direction.
Blake Bortles should be improved in his second season. Part of that is growth and maturity, while the other part is that he has a shiny new target in tight end Julius Thomas.
Although getting Bortles snaps is important, expect to see Chad Henne most of the way in this one. He and rookie tailback T.J. Yeldon will be the focus of the offense against the Steelers, and likely against most competition throughout the preseason.
NFL Football Betting Trends:
- PIT is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 overall
- JAX is 18-37-1 ATS in their last 56 home games
- JAX is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 overall
- PIT is 3-9 ATS in their last 12 in Jacksonville
4* NFL Betting Pick: Even
In a pick em contest, I like the Steelers in a game that will give them a chance to make up for an awful showing.
It’s certainly possible that a young Jaguars squad comes out looking to take advantage of the footage it’s inevitably seen from Pittsburgh’s first outing, but if you ask me, there’s no way the Steelers look as bad as they did last week.
NFL Score Prediction: Pittsburgh 31 – Jacksonville 17
