Washington was the center of the football universe on Wednesday when the team announced that quarterback Robert Griffin III would not only be yielding starting responsibilities to Kirk Cousins the rest of the way, but he would be deactivated and replaced on the sideline by Rex Grossman. Cousins gets just his second career start on Sunday in Atlanta. He was a second round pick two years ago and looked good in limited action, but he is still raw and learning on the job. It was still Griffin III at the helm in the team’s last game, a 45-10 drubbing at the hands of Kansas City.

Not much went right for the Washington offense in that one. Cousins replaced Griffin III in the second half and completed just 7 of 16 passes for 59 yards, even taking a sack along the way. The team was forced to give up on their running game early, but didn’t have much success even when they did run the ball, as Alfred Morris turned his 12 carries into just 31 yards. He should find more running lanes in this one against a porous Atlanta defense.

The Washington defense had no answer for the Kansas City rushing attack. Jamaal Charles racked up 151 yards and a score on 19 carries. As a team, the Chiefs turned out 5.1 yards per carry against the Redskins.

Atlanta put up a good fight in their last game but fell to Green Bay on a fourth quarter score, 22-21.

Quarterback Matt Ryan completed 20 of 35 passes for 206 yards and two scores with an interception in the game. His top target was Roddy White who caught eight passes for 74 yards. Steven Jackson continues to plug along on the ground, rushing for 71 yards on 15 totes, adding a nine-yard reception.

The Atlanta defense had one of their better performances, sacking Matt Flynn five times and picking him off once. Other than that, Flynn did what he wanted, completing 24 of 32 passes for 258 yards. The unit did a good job against Eddie Lacy, limiting him to 65 yards and a score on 20 totes.

Each side brings a poor defense into this contest, and while neither side has been happy with the play of their offense this season, they should both be able to get points in this one as

The over is 6-2 in Atlanta’s last eight home games.
