Green Bay’s last game saw the team fall to the New York Giants, 27-13.

Quarterback Scott Tolzien made his first start in that game and looked impressive at times. His final line wasn’t nearly as impressive. He completed 24 of 34 passes for 339 yards with three interceptions. His favorite target on the day was wide receiver Jordy Nelson, who hauled in eight balls for 117 yards.

The team was expected to lean more heavily on the ground game with Rodgers out, but that never materialized in this one. Running back Eddie Lacy carried the ball 14 times for just 27 yards, although he did score, while fellow back James Starks received just two carries for a net of a loss of a yard.

The Packer defense didn’t give up a whole lot, surrendering just 334 yards on the night, but the Giants got there points when they needed them to pull away in the third quarter. The team was particularly vulnerable to the pass, allowing Giants quarterback Eli Manning to complete 25 of his 35 passes for 279 yards and a score with an interception.

Minnesota’s last game was even worse if you can believe it. The team was ripped apart by the Seattle Seahawks in a 41-20 drubbing that was never as close as the final score indicates. The team’s offense is supposed to run through back Adrian Peterson, but he turned his 21 carries into just 65 yards.

The team’s quarterback situation remains a hot mess, with Christian Ponder and Matt Cassel combining to complete 18 of 35 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns with three interceptions. It didn’t help that team’s efforts that top receiver Greg Jennings was a late scratch despite a probable designation, although the good news is that he expected back this weekend.

The Minnesota defense didn’t allow Seattle to do anything all that special, although they didn’t do anything all that special themselves, recording only one sack and failing to force a turnover.

The unit has been dreadful against opposing passing attacks but continues to be formidable against the run, limiting Marshawn Lynch to just 54 yards on 17 carries, although he did score twice on the ground.

As bad as things have looked for the Packers in recent weeks, they’ve looked even worse for the Vikings. While Rodgers is certainly out, Peterson is expected to play, but how much he’ll be able to contribute remains up in the air. Don’t be surprised if Tolzien and the Green Bay offense have a surprisingly effective day against a porous Minnesota secondary.

The Packers are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings between these teams.

The play: Green Bay -4
