Point spread: Patriots -10
Over/Under: 48.5

Despite the fact that Miami has been out of the playoff picture since there were green leaves on the trees, there has been no quit in this team especially over the last half of the season. Last week’s 30-23 victory over Buffalo as a one-point road favorite raised its record to 5-9 straight-up on the year and to 7-6-1 against the spread. The total has stayed ‘under’ in 10 of its 14 games this year.

The Dolphins have won five of their last seven games behind a defense that is now ranked fifth in the NFL in points allowed; giving-up an average of just 19.2 points a game. The offense has also stepped things up by scoring 30 or more points in four of their last seven games.

New England rolled over Denver last Sunday 41-23 as a seven-point road favorite and by virtue of losses by Houston, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh controls its own destiny to secure the No.1 seed in the AFC. It now has the best record in the conference at 11-3 SU and is 8-6 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’ in nine of its 14 games this season.

The Patriots’ offense is churning-out an average of 426.3 yards of offense and putting-up an average 31.2 points a game, but what makes this team so dangerous is its ability to find another gear to pull away from teams down the stretch. The much maligned defense is still ranked last in the league in total yards allowed, but ranked 15th where it matters the most; points allowed. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Miami is 7-1 ATS in its last eight games overall and 4-0 ATS in its last four games against the AFC. The total has gone ‘over’ in three of its last five games against the AFC East.

New England is 7-2 ATS in its last nine games against the AFC East and the total has gone ‘over’ in 10 of its last 11 games played within the division.

The road team in this series is 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings and the total has gone ‘over’ in five of the last seven games. The Patriots have won five of the last six games SU including a 38-24 romp on opening day as seven-point road favorites. They will not lose this game at home, but take the Dolphins this time around to cover with the 10 points.

The Pick: New England 27        Miami 24
