Tennessee vs Jacksonville Monday NFL Betting – Jaguars, Titans Fight For First In AFC South

The Tennessee Titans were one of the streakiest teams in the NFL in 2009 and the same appears to be true in 2010. They have impressive road wins over the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys in the last three weeks sandwiched in between a discouraging home loss to the Denver Broncos. Now the Titans head on the road to face a Jaguars team that has won two straight games.

How Can Tennessee Win?

Hand the ball off to Chris Johnson.

In the second of last year’s two meetings, Johnson had 228 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries. The Jaguars run defense is ranked 13th overall but they haven’t faced any run-oriented teams. They’ve contained Denver, San Diego, Philadelphia, Indianapolis and Buffalo, but the Titans will be their toughest test yet.

The Titans have had an extra day to prepare this week, which was turned into a day off for Johnson. On the heels of his best performance of the year – 131 yards and touchdowns against Dallas – he should be very fresh on Monday night.

Last week, Vince Young showed us that the Titans do have an adequate passing game and they can move the ball through the air when necessary. They’ll have to do the same to keep the Jaguars from stacking the box to free up space for Johnson.

How Can Jacksonville Win?

Similar to the Titans, the Jaguars need to get their stud going: Maurice Jones-Drew. MJD has yet to have a big game this season but if the Jaguars are going to be contending for the top spot in the AFC South – which they surprisingly are – they need Jones-Drew to keep running hard.

The Jaguars seem to be the ideal team to be as an underdog. As a favorite, they continually disappoint but when receiving points and being underappreciated, they seem to get the job done. Coincidentally, the same can be said for the Tennessee Titans.

When the Jaguars can run the ball and stay ahead of the down and distance, David Garrard has shown he can make smart throws and keep his team in the game. He is 22-16 at home versus 12-17 on the road.

Outlook

These two teams are a mirror image of each other. They both need to run the ball to succeed, both teams have moderate passing games and both teams play better as the underdog.

The Jaguars are in that role this week and they should be facing a road-weary Titans squad that is on its second consecutive road game and its third in four weeks.

Both running backs will have big games but the Jaguars will make a few more plays to squeak out an important win on Monday Night Football.

One reply on “Titans vs. Jaguars: Monday Night Football Week 6 Lines”

There have been NFL teams over the years – the turn-of-the-century Rams come to mind – who have been able to win football games by putting up a high number of points every week that masked numerous deficiencies on defense. But the only way to make that work is if the offense is exceptionally talented and near- perfect in its execution, and while the Jaguars have been the latter over the past two weeks, the absence of the former characteristic is likely to be their undoing. The Titans have enough going on defensively to force Garrard into a couple of key mistakes, and the Jags’ defense is not good enough to make consistent stops against Johnson and the Tennessee offense. Titans win this game and cover the spread.
