How Can Houston Win?

Arian Foster ran for 231 yards in the first meeting and with the Texans having plenty of success on the ground, it allowed them to frustrate Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and more importantly, keep him off of the field.

Over the last four games, the Texans were without left tackle Duane Brown but he’s on track to return on Monday. They’ll need him as they match up with top-flight defensive ends Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney. It goes without saying that both players need to be neutralized once again if the Texans are to sweep the Colts this year.

How Can Indianapolis Win?

Aim for the 32nd ranked pass defense.

The Colts have Peyton Manning and a passing offense loading with plenty of weapons. They started slow in Week 1 but coming off a bye week, they should be sharp enough to abuse the worst secondary and worst overall defense (statistically) in the NFL.

In the first meeting of the season, the Colts were ambushed. The Texans had the game circled all offseason and the Colts simply couldn’t match their intensity in the first half. But now that the shoe is on the other foot, the Colts are going to play some smashmouth football on defense, earn the ball back for their offense and go to work on a very weak group of defensive backs.

Even without Dallas Clark, the Colts are going to have some big time advantages when passing the ball. The Texans have really struggled to pressure the passer lately and that’s the absolute recipe for disaster when facing the Colts.

Outlook

The Colts are 15-2 all-time against the Texans, so it’s not as if defeating the Texans is a foreign concept. They own this series and while the Texans are getting better – much better – their pass defense is still brutal and they are too reliant on their running game.

In the first meeting, the Texans ran wild but this week, the Colts won’t allow. Playing at home, in front of their audience, they are going to come up with a valiant effort on defense to make sure that Foster isn’t totaling over 200 rushing yards by himself.

On the flip side, the Colts will get ahead and play with the lead, also forcing the Texans to abandon the ground game – or use it less.

This game is all about pace and the Colts will be able to dictate since they are at home.
