The Packers have been hot lately winning four straight despite a host of injuries on both sides of the ball while the Bears have lost three of their last four games and will be forced to play without Jay Cutler again this week.

The NFC North is a wide-open race with Detroit in the mix meaning that a loss could hurt either team`s chances at a playoff spot.

Perhaps the biggest surprise about the 2013 Chicago Bears is the play of their defense. Somehow the Bears rank close to the bottom in nearly every major defensive category. The Bears rank 29th in the league in points allowed per game and 27th in total yards allowed per game.

Last time out they gave up 45 points to the Bears – the fourth time this year an opposing team has scored 30+ points on the D. Not a good sign when the Green Bay Packers are on the horizon. Was Brian Urlacher that much of a difference maker?

As mentioned the Bears will be forced to trot out backup QB Josh McCown who threw for 204 yards and a TD in relief of Cutler in a loss to Washington two weeks ago. Brandon Marshall and his team-high 46 times for 540 yards and five touchdowns still exists and Alshon Jeffery who has been terrific as well with 33 catches, 561 yards and two TDs will be on the field as well. But with a backup QB it may not matter.

Matt Forte will likely be the key this weekend. He has been good this season but has traditionally struggled against Green Bay. Keep in mind the Packers held Adrian Peterson to just 60 yards rushing in a game earlier this season. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Green Bay Packers looked to have turned the corner and appear to have returned to the elite tier of NFL teams – thanks in very large part to Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers for 2,191 yards and 15 touchdowns on the season despite losing Jermichael Finley, James Jones and Randall Cobb to injury. Jordy Nelson has picked up the slack and Jarrett Boykin has been a terrific fill-in.

The difference Monday could be the Packers rushing game – we`ve already documented the issues Chicago has had against the run. Eddie Lacy has been one of the best young backs in the NFL this season and quite possibly a Rookie of the Year candidate with 446 yards and three touchdowns on four yards per carry. Amazingly enough the Packers have hit the century mark on the ground in six straight games, including a 182-yard effort at Minnesota.

The Packers have been middle of the pack this year but have been holding their own despite being the loss of Clay Matthews to injury. This unit ranks 16th in the league in points allowed per game and 11th in total yards allowed per game while ranking a terrific fourth in rush yards allowed.

Monday Night Football Betting Prediction

A few trends to consider:

• Over is 8-1 in CHI last 9 games overall.
• Over is 7-1 in CHI last 8 games in Week 9.
• CHI are 2-12 ATS in their last 14 vs. NFC.
• Under is 7-2 in GB last 9 vs. NFC North.
• GB are 15-5 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
• GB are 26-9 ATS in their last 35 vs. NFC North.
• Under is 10-1 in the last 11 meetings.
• CHI are 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 meetings.

Monday will mark a matchup between two of the top three scoring teams in the NFL, with Chicago at No. 2 (30.4) and Green Bay at No. 3 (30.3) – the Over certainly looks like a nice play here. As far as the spread goes, seven of the last 10 meetings between the Packers and Bears (including postseason) have been decided by eight points or less.

That said, the Bears are stopping absolutely nobody on defense and the Packers have been great against what looks like Chicago’s only chance in this game – the run.

The Packers roll on home field and blow out the Bears. Come back soon Jay Cutler – PLEASE!

Pick: Green Bay Packers -10 1/2 and the Over 51 points
