Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Carolina Panthers Preview

On the season the Bucs are 5-8 ATS and they have an O/U record of 5-8 and the Panthers are 7-6 ATS and they have an O/U record of 8-5.

This season the Panthers are 2-4 at home and the Bucs are 2-5 on the road.

In their last games Panthers beat the New Orleans Saints 41-10 and the Bucs lost to the Detroit Lions 34-17.

The Panthers snapped their 6-game losing streak in their last game, which was their best showing of the season. Hard to believe, but they are still alive for the NFC South Crown, but they may need to win out and have the Falcons lose.

The Bucs have lost 3 straight and they are headed for another high draft pick. They are the 5-point road underdog in this division game and in the season opener they lost by 6 points at home to Carolina.

In their win over the Saints the Panthers played great defense, Cam Newton had a solid game, and RB Jonathan Stewart had his best game of the season.

[dfads params=’groups=66501&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Newton passed for 226 yards with 3 TD and 0 INT and while he does not have a great WR corps rookie K Kelvin Benjamin is the leading receiver and TE Greg Olson has been solid. The Bucs rank 24th in the league in pass defense and in the loss to the Lions they gave up nearly 300 passing yards and 3 YTD and did not have a INT.

The Panthers shredded the Saints on the ground rushing for 271 yards with Stewart having 155 rushing yards and Newton chiming in for 83. The Bucs and their 20th ranked run D gave up 113 yards to a Lions’ team that has a weak rushing attack and they will get a heavy dose of the run in this game.

The Panthers held Drew Brees in check last week and they face Josh McCown this week, who had 250 passing yards with 2 INT in the loss to the Lions, but had 2 picks and was sacked 6 times. The Tampa Bay offensive line has to play better in this game, as McCown does have 2 6’5” WR’s in Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson, whose side may give the Carolina secondary match up issues.

The Bucs have struggled to run the ball all season and that continued in the Lions game where they had only 26 rushing yards.

Doug Martin has to help McCown out in this game, as this season has proved he cannot carry the team with his arm.
