New Orleans Saints vs. Dallas Cowboys Preview

On the season the Saints are 1-2 ATS and have an Over/Under record of 2-1 and the Cowboys are 2-1 ATS with an Over/Under record of 1-2.

In their last games the Cowboys beat the St. Louis Rams 34-31 and the Saints beat the Minnesota Vikings 20-9.

This season the Cowboys are 0-1 at home and the Saints are 0-2 on the road.

Wait a minute the Cowboys have won 2 straight and the Saints won their first game of the season last week facing a weak Vikings team and they are the 3-point road betting favorite? That is the way it is I guess, bot something has to give in this game with the Cowboys looking for their first home win and the Saints looking for their first road win.

Drew Brees leads a New Orleans offense that ranks 5th in the league in passing yards per game and 6th in rushing yards per game, but the defense has been the issue. Last season New Orleans turned things around and had the league’s 2nd ranked pass D, but this season they only rank 29th.

The run defense of the Saints has been pretty good and that may be the key in this game even with Tony Romo under center.  Unlike the last several seasons the Cowboys have a legit rushing offense and that is because of DeMarco Murray, who leads the league in rushing yards and is averaging over 5 yards per carry.

After a bad first game Romo has played well in the last 2 with 3 TD and only 1 INT. He has the weapons in WR Dez Bryant and TE Jason Witten, who will be a major handful for the Saints pass D.

Brees also has a slew of weapons including TE Jimmy Graham and rookie WR Brandin Cooks, but the Saints passing offense just does not seem to be the dynamic unit it has been in the last several seasons.

However, that may change in this game facing a Cowboys’ pass D that only ranks 21st and allowed the Rams to gain 327 yards in the air and that was with 3rd string QB Austin Davis under center for the Rams.

The Cowboys were down 21-0 to the Rams before coming back to win and it helped that their D forced 3 turnovers. The Saints have to avoid turning the ball over and their offensive line has to play well protecting Brees and opening up holes for the run game.

Mark Ingram (Out 2-3 more weeks) and Khiry Robinson have finally given Brees some help on offense running the ball and with the Cowboys concentrating on keeping Brees from lighting them up they will get their chances in the Big D this Sunday night.
