Miami Dolphins vs. New England Patriots Preview

On the season the Dolphins are 7-6 ATS and they have an O/U record of 5-8 and the Patriots are 8-5 ATS and they have an O/U record of 8-5.

This season the Patriots are 6-0 at home and the Dolphins are 4-3 on the road.

In their last games the Patriots beat the San Diego Chargers 23-14 and the Dolphins lost to the Baltimore Ravens 28-13.

The Pats got over their loss to the Packers with a big win last week in sunny San Diego and if they can beat the Dolphins and the Bills lose they will wrap up the AFC East. Things are more dire for the Dolphins, who have lost 2 of their last 3 and need a strong finish, and maybe some help, in snagging an AFC Wild Card berth.

The Pats are undefeated at home this season and in this game they are a 7.5-point betting favorite. Maybe one of the reasons they are not a bigger betting favorite is that one of their 3 losses this season have come against the Dolphins.

The Dolphins’ offense has not looked impressive in their last 2 games, where they have combined for 29 points, and they face a New England defense that held the Chargers to 216 total yards in their last game.

The Dolphins have the league’s 3rd ranked pass defense, but that unit was less than stellar facing Joe Flacco and the Ravens last week. Now they face Tom Brady, who passed for 317 yards with 2 TD and 1 INT in the win over San Diego. Rob Gronkowski has been one of the main reasons the Patriots have won 8 of their last 9 games and he did not play in the season opening loss to the Dolphins.

The Pats only rushed for 87 yards in the San Diego game with LeGarrette Blount averaging 3.3 yards per carry for 66 yards. He will get his chances to pad his stats facing a Miami run D that only ranks 22nd in the league and gave up 183 rushing yards to the Ravens.

Ryan Tannehill did not have a bad game in the loss to the Ravens, but he was sacked 6 times for a loss of 41 yards. His offensive line will need to protect him in this game and give him time to find his targets. He has a decent WR corps led by big play guy Mike Wallace, but has to stay off his butt to find them.

The Pats stuffed the run last week against the Chargers and they will have to do the same facing Miami leading rusher Lamar Miller, who was decent last week, but did not have many carries since the Fish had to air it out to attempt the comeback against the Ravens.
