Detroit Lions vs. Minnesota Vikings Preview

On the season the Lions are 3-2 ATS and they have an O/U record of 1-4 and the Vikings are 2-3 ATS and they have an Under record of 2-3.

This season the Vikings are 1-1 at home and the Lions are 1-1 on the road.

In their last games the Lions lost to the Buffalo Bills 17-14 and the Vikings lost to the Green Bay Packers 42-10.

Both the Lions and the Vikings are coming off losses and while it is no surprise Minnesota lost it was that Detroit did at home to the Buffalo Bills. The Lions are atop the NFC North with the Green Bay Packers and they could use a win in this game, as their next few weeks are killer.

The Vikings did not have rookie QB Teddy Bridgewater in the last game, but he is expected to play in this one. While he played well in his first start of the season he has a tall task facing a Detroit pass defense that ranks 5th in the league.

Matthew Stafford and the passing attack for the Lions gets most of the press, but their D has been solid this season not only against the pass, but against the run where they rank 4th in the league.

Even with Bridgewater under center it will be key that the Vikes run the ball, as that is where they have been decent this season even without Adrian Peterson. However, last week they faced the Green Bay run defense that was the worst ranked unit in the league in run D and they only had 111 rushing yards. Still, RB Matt Asiata has played well in the last couple of games and he needs to have another good game since the Vikes have a less than stellar WR corps.

Stafford has Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate, but it is key that he finds them in this game. The Detroit QB only has 6 TD on the season as opposed to 5 picks. Even in giving up 42 points in the loss to the Packers they did not give up a ton of passing yards, but did give up 156 rushing yards.

At least this Sunday they will face a Detroit run game that has struggled all season. Reggie Bush and Joique Bell are both averaging under 4 yards per carry and neither has over 165 rushing yards after 5 games.

Cappers NFL Free 4* Pick

Stafford has not been passing for many TD’s, but I expect that to change in this game. He will play well and the Lions’ defense will hold the Vikes’ offense in check and Detroit will win and cover.
