Baltimore Ravens vs. New England Patriots Preview

On the season the Ravens are 8-8-1 ATS and they have an O/U record of 7-9-1 and the Patriots are 9-7 ATS and they have an O/U record of 9-7.

This season the Patriots are 7-1 at home and the Ravens are 5-4 on the road.

In their last games the Ravens beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 30-17 and the Patriots lost to the Buffalo Bills 17-9.

Joe Flacco kept his impressive playoff run alive winning against the Steelers at Pittsburgh last week in the Wild Card, but can they pull off the W in New England? Odds makers have them as 7-point underdogs facing a rested Pats team that not only had last week off, but rested many key players in the season finale.

Flacco was solid in the Pittsburgh game with 259 yards with 2 TD and 0 INT. He has 2 led targets in Steve Smith and Torrey Smith they will be facing a New England pass defense that ranks 17th in the league.

The Pats rank a legit 9th in the league in run defense and while the Ravens won last week they only had 49 rushing yards and Justin Forsett really struggled. He has to help Joe Flacco out in this game, as the Baltimore QB cannot be counted to do it all.

The Ravens have won 4 of their last 5 games and the main reason has been their defense. Baltimore shut down the run last week, but did not have to face the league’s 2nd leading rusher in Le’Veon Bell , who was out with an injury. While Ben Roethlisberger passed for 334 yards and 1 TD the Ravens picked him off twice and they sacked Big Ben 5 times.

Tom Brady has several key weapons led by TE Rob Gronkowski, who has been awesome this season since coming back from injury. The pass rush will be critical for the Ravens in this game, as overall their pass defense only ranks 23rd in the league. If they cannot get to Brady in the pocket they may be in big trouble.

The Ravens strength on D is their run defense, which ranks 4th in the league.

The Pats have a deep backfield with Shane Vareen, LeGarrette Blount, and Jonas Gray and while containing Brady is the key for the Baltimore defense they cannot forget about the run.

NFL Playoff Trends

4* Cappers NFL Free Pick

The Ravens looked solid last week in their Wild Card win over the Steelers, but they will not have much luck against the Patriots, who will win and cover at home. In looking at the betting trends it points to the Ravens, but Brady will not lose at home unless the opposing QB’s name is Manning.
