New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins NFL Week 3 Preview & Free Pick

NFL Handicapping – Jets vs Dolphins Betting Spread / Matchup

The Dolphins got their first win of the season last week and while they have a solid rushing offense and defense the same cannot be said about their passing offense and defense.

New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins Preview

After an impressive season opening win the Jets fell back to earth and they were soundly beat last week and only scored 10 points. NFL lines have the Jets as slight 2.5-point away favorites with a total of 41.5.

Every team in the AFC East is 1-1.

In their last games the Dolphins beat the Oakland Raiders 35-13 while the Jets lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-10.

This season both teams are 1-1 ATS with an Over/Under record of 1-1.

After a solid season opener Mark Sanchez really struggled last week only going 10/27 for 138 yards with a TD. Jeremy Kerley and Santanio Holmes are his top 2 targets and Sanchez has a good chance to bounce back facing a Miami pass defense that only ranks 30th in the league. However, if Sanchez struggles don’t be surprised if Tebow-Time begins for the Jets.

Shonn Greene is only averaging 3.1 yards per carry this season and he may have a tough time again in this game facing a Dolphins’ run defense that ranks 4th in the league and totally shut down the Raiders last week holding them to only 23 yards on the ground.

Ryan Tannehill rushed for a TD and passed for 1 in the win over Oakland and he passed for 200 yards. He has a weak WR corps, but he has to limit his mistakes like he did last week. While the Jets have a decent pass defense they may be without CB Darrelle Revis, as he is recovering from a concussion. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Jets and their 22nd ranked run defense will get a heavy dose of Reggie Bush, who ranks 2nd in the NFL in rushing yards per game. He has proved he can be an every down back and last week he had a career high 26 carries for 176 yards with 2 TD. While he has averaged 126.7 rushing yards per game in his last 6 games he has struggled to run the ball in his last 2 games against the Jets.

In some betting trends for this AFC East match up the Jets are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall, and they have an Over record of 20-8-1 in their last 29 road games.

The Dolphins are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games overall, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win, and they have an Under record of 12-4-1 in their last 17 games.

The underdog has covered the spread in 5 of the last 7 games between these 2 teams.

Jason’s Pick: This one is a hard one to call and even though Bush will have a good game I think Sanchez will as well and the Jets will win this game and cover.
