Handicapping 2015 NFL Super Bowl XLIX Futures Odds & Predictions

Super Bowl Gambling?

The dust has barely settled on the Seahawks’ Super Bowl XLVIII win, but oddsmakers don’t rest, and so there are already odds out for Super Bowl XLIX. The Seahawks of course find themselves installed as the favorites, given their recent dominance, but there are some teams installed at longer odds that could offer up some value.

Here’s a look at five of the favorites that could break through next season, and five teams installed at longer odds that could offer up some serious value. Odds provided by Bovada.

San Francisco 49ers +600

With teams gunning for the Seahawks next season, San Francisco may slide into the top spot in the NFC, and a home schedule in next year’s playoffs could make all the difference. The 49ers have made it at least as far as the NFC Championship Game in each of their three seasons under John Harbaugh, so if nothing else, a play on the 49ers could offer up value to hedge somewhere down the road.

New England Patriots +700

The Patriots dealt with a litany of injuries this season and weren’t able to take advantage of a weak AFC. With players like Vince Wilfork, Jerod Mayo, and Rob Gronkowski set to return next season, the Patriots will look to retain their title as the class of the AFC.

Green Bay Packers +1600

San Francisco’s had their number, but the Packers have been able to take care of business against just about all other comers. While it may have been early in Russell Wilson’s career, remember that they all but beat the Seahawks in Seattle if not for a screw up by the replacement referees. If the defense can get back to its ball-hawking ways and Aaron Rodgers can remain healthy, Green Bay could be a team to watch out for.

New Orleans +1600

The Saints know where their weaknesses lie. In last year’s draft, the team plugged a big hole drafting Kenny Vaccaro in the first round. If they can improve on that side of the ball this year and get Jimmy Graham’s contract dispute settled quickly, watch out.

Carolina Panthers +2000

The Panthers surprised many this season, but they’ve had the talent to win for years now. Luke Kuechly may have been the final piece to the puzzle on defense, and the team could solve things on the other side of the ball with some smart moves on the other side of the ball in this year’s draft which is loaded with high-end wide receivers.

Arizona Cardinals +3000

This year’s Super Bowl will be played in Arizona, and while the host team has never played in the Super Bowl, the Cardinals will be extra motivated this season. With Larry Fitzgerald re-iterating his commitment to the team with a contract restructuring in the offseason, and Patrick Peterson developing into one of the best players on the other side of the ball, Arizona could make some noise out west.

Houston Texans +3000

No one expected Houston to fall apart the way they did last season. Many of the right pieces are already in place, now the team just needs to find its quarterback, and this is certainly the right draft to do just that. In a weak AFC, Houston’s turnaround may not take more than once season.

New York Giants +4000

The Giants looked downright awful last season, but many of the key faces from the team’s recent championship runs remain, and we’ve already learned that the Giants can perform at their best when they appear most vulnerable.

Cleveland Browns +6000

Will another new head coach make any difference in Cleveland? Probably not, but there’s no denying that the team already has all the weapons needed to win. Their defense was quietly one of the better units in football last year. If they can find the right quarterback through the draft (or get Brian Hoyer back on the field), he and Josh Gordon could make some beautiful music next season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers +6000

The Bucs made big strides forward on the defensive side of the ball under Greg Schiano, but they were expected by some to become an elite unit with the addition of Darrelle Revis. While that never materialized, the addition of Lovie Smith should help transform that unit into something special. Mike Glennon appears to be the real deal, and a returning Doug Martin should right the ship on offense.

Here are the odds for the rest of the league.

Atlanta Falcons +2500
Baltimore Ravens +3000
Buffalo Bills +6000
Chicago Bears +3000
Cincinnati Bengals +2000
Dallas Cowboys +3000
Denver Broncos +500
Detroit Lions +4000
Indianapolis Colts +2000
Jacksonville Jaguars +20000
Kansas City Chiefs +3000
Miami Dolphins +5000
Minnesota Vikings +10000
New York Jets +6000
Oakland Raiders +20000
Philadelphia Eagles +3000
Pittsburgh Steelers +3000
San Diego Chargers +3000
St. Louis Rams +4000
Seattle Seahawks +400
Tennessee Titans +6000
Washington Redskins +4000
