One of the fiercest rivalries in the NFL is renewed at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

Despite the struggles of the Broncos, they would like nothing more than to spoil the fading playoff hopes of the Raiders.

Denver is coming off a 43-13 loss in the first game coached by Eric Studesville. Taking over for Josh McDaniels last week, Studesville was unable to do what both Jason Garrett in Dallas and Leslie Frazier in Minnesota were able to do earlier this season – win their first game as interim head coach. Studesville will continue to hope that quarterback Kyle Orton can do the job in the air. Orton is 347 passing yards from reaching 4,000 for the season, which would make him the fourth quarterback in Broncos history to do so (John Elway, Jake Plummer, and Jay Cutler are the others).

Orton has played three games for the Broncos against Oakland since the start of the 2009 campaign, and has thrown four touchdown passes with just one interception. Denver also hopes for more solid efforts from running back Knowshon Moreno. The young running back leads the team with 714 yards on the ground, and most of that is on the strength of five straight games with over 100 yards of total offense.

Champ Bailey has only two interceptions on defense, but like so many great cover cornerbacks in NFL history, their interception totals get lower when teams realize they can’t throw against them. Bailey does have four career picks against the Raiders.

Denver has won seven of the last 11 overall in the series with Oakland, including six of the last seven trips to northern California.

For the Raiders, they lead the all-time series 57-41-2 and have won four of the past six. This includes a 59-14 drubbing of the Broncos in Denver back in Week 7, which jump started a three-game win streak.

It’s been only three seasons since a Raider rushed for over 1,000 yards in a season (Justin Fargas in 2007), but Darren McFadden is at 997 entering this game. In that blowout victory back in October, the Raiders gained 328 rushing yards against Denver, the third highest total in franchise history.

The Raiders love to put defensive pressure on opposing quarterback, and they rank third in the league entering this weekend’s action with 38 sacks. Speaking of quarterbacks, Jason Campbell has settled into the role for the Raiders under center. After a sluggish and injury-plagued start, Campbell has come on recently. In last week’s tough loss at Jacksonville 38-31, Campbell went 21-for-30 for 324 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions.

Tight end Zach Miller continues to be a calming influence for whoever is the Raiders triggerman. Miller needs just 51 receiving yards to become the second tight end in history with three consecutive seasons of 600 or more receiving yards (Todd Christensen being the other). Sensational rookie wide out Jacoby Ford has caught a touchdown pass in two of the last three games for the silver and black.

With a more multi-faceted offensive attack and a good pass defense, the Raiders should be able to add to the Broncos misery with another loss.
