The Chiefs are by all regards the frauds of the 2013 season. The team took a perfect 9-0 record into their Week 11 matchup with the Denver Broncos, leading the world to believe that they had what it took to compete for the division title, but the reality is they just feasted on one of the easier schedule in football, then got exposed when the slate got tougher.

This season, the Chiefs will get their wake-up call much earlier in the season, with a trip to Denver scheduled for Week 2, though that doesn’t mean they can’t get off on the right foot against a Titans team that gave away its top talent in the offseason.

The Titans enter this season with Shonn Greene listed atop the depth chart at running back, with rookie Bishop Sankey behind him. Standout running back Chris Johnson is gone, leaving the Titans short on playmakers.

However, they do have a good group of wide receivers, headlined by Justin Hunter and Kendall Wright, and quarterback Jake Locker came into the league showing a lot of promise. New head coach Ken Whisenhunt has a lot of work to do in what will likely be a rebuilding year in Tennessee.

Meanwhile, Kansas City ponied up the cash to keep quarterback Alex Smith in town for a long while with a brand new contract extension.

The Chiefs brought in Smith from the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a pair of second round picks a year ago.

The Chiefs are in for a major regression this season, but not in this game. Kansas City is the more talented squad on both sides of the ball, and have the added advantage of getting this game on their home field, where they are backed by one of the loudest crowds in football.

Additionally, this is a game that should see a fair number of points. The Chiefs will be able to run at will which will allow Jamaal Charles to rack up big time yardage, while the Titans will go to the air early and often and should find success against a depleted Chief secondary.

The Titans are 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight road games, and they are 3-0-1 ATS in their last four games played in the month of September.

The over is 5-0 in the last five meetings between these teams, and it is 6-1 in the Chiefs’ last seven games overall.

The 4* NFL Play: Tennessee +3.5, Over 43.5
