The Ravens will intend to get back on track at home against the Titans this weekend, a prospect that should prove quite feasible.

The Tennessee Titans are “Figure 1A” of how important quarterbacking is in the contemporary NFL.

The Titans have a couple of pieces and some intriguing youth, but they are a disaster under center. Jake Locker, long staked to be the franchise’s future at QB, couldn’t stay healthy and was an inaccurate bust when he was on the field.

Career journeyman Charlie Whitehurst has made a few starts for the Titans in 2014; he gives a valiant effort but doesn’t bring much to the table beyond that.

Now the former Houston Oilers franchise has turned to this year’s sixth-round draft pick Zach Mettenberger, who hopefully practices his chops at the position when he isn’t taking selfies and bickering with superstar J.J. Watt.

Tight end Delanie Walker has been a breath of fresh air for the Titans, but the bright spots have been hard to find in a 2-6 campaign thus far. It looks like the Titans are just the tonic the Ravens need to chase the AFC North division crown.

Baltimore had a nail-biting three point loss to Cincy two weeks ago, but got blown out last week against red-hot QB Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers. With even Cleveland winning lately (the Browns blew out Cincy on Thursday night) the Ravens cannot afford to slip even a little.

Some limited good news for Mettenberger is that the Ravens’ secondary is decimated. Well, sort of decimated and sort of, just…bad. Pittsburgh lit up the Baltimore back seven last week, and this is the second consecutive week starting CB Jimmy Smith is out with a foot ailment.

Mettenberger will make his second straight start and has to show enough to make the Tennessee brass feel remotely confident in their QB situation moving forward.

Swinging and missing on a first-round ‘QB of the future’ really sets a franchise back. Tennessee is currently learning this the hard way with its 2011 selection of Locker at sixth overall. The Titans have to find someone to get the ball to Walker and promising WR Kendall Wright.

They pray that Mettenberger is the guy. In the interim, though? Expect the Ravens to roll at home.
