Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger will give you a predictably strong performance, but the home team’s Brian Hoyer was a rather unknown commodity entering the season.

It’s safe to say, at .500, Cleveland brass is at least reasonably impressed with Hoyer’s efforts to date.

Steelers

The Steelers grabbed a 30-27 comeback win against Cleveland in the season’s opening week, so the Browns will have revenge on their minds at home this Sunday.

If Cleveland is to be successful, it must find some way of containing WR Antonio Brown. Pittsburgh’s star wideout has emerged as a top-5 option in the league this season; he churns out catches, yards and TDs with regularity.

Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell is also a true weapon for their offense. He has diversified his game since being a power back at Michigan State and his pass-catching is especially adept. He’s someone the Cleveland defense must game-plan for.

Browns

The Browns have been experiencing moderate success without star WR Josh Gordon and athletic TE Jordan Cameron being slowed with a nagging shoulder ailment.

It speaks to the moxie that Hoyer has showcased to date, playing for his hometown team.

So far, there hasn’t been much cause to get publicized draft pick Johnny Manziel on the field. The Browns can keep the explosive Big Ben-to-Brown combo off the field by running the ball and controlling the clock. Cleveland is currently ranked fourth in the league in rush yards, with 144 per game.

The combination of Terrance West and Ben Tate have been a strong running duo for the home side. The Browns have done a good job weathering the storm with a myriad of injuries, including to franchise CB Joe Haden.

There’s nothing Cleveland fans like better than beating Pittsburgh, so the Dawg Pound will be “ravenous” for a win (pardon the bad pun).

If Haden cannot go, it will be especially difficult to contain Brown. The Steelers don’t pose too much of a threat with secondary options like Markus Wheaton and Heath Miller, but Brown and Bell are dangerous targets.

If Cleveland can limit the damage incurred to even just one of these players rather than both, the Browns have a good chance of grabbing a home win on the shores of Lake Erie.
