The Jets haven’t fared well when making the trip out to Foxborough, and they’ll be desperate this time around as the team brings along with it its longest losing streak in seven years. As for the Patriots, they’re trying to weather a pair of key injuries suffered in their last game, with both linebacker Jerod Mayo and running back Stevan Ridley going down.

The Patriots have won six in a row over the Jets on their home field. Bill Belichick has been a foil of Rex Ryan’s in his tenure with the Jets, and now the Jets’ coach is facing questions about his job security and needing a win against the Patriots.

A turnaround for the Jets would need to begin under center with sophomore quarterback Geno Smith. Smith has completed 57.1 percent of his passes, throwing for six touchdowns and seven interceptions, good for a league-low 69.7 percent passer rating.

In two games against the Patriots last season, Smith completed 32 of his 68 pass attempts for 447 yards with a touchdown and four interceptions. He was sacked eight times. That means the key to success for the Jets in this one will be running the football.

The Jets averaged 151.3 rushing yards per game through their first four contests, but have averaged only 61.0 over their last two games, including just 31 against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. The team only ran the ball 15 times in that game – their fewest rushing attempts under Ryan.

The Jets’ defensive secondary entered the season with a lot of question marks and things only got worse Sunday when starting cornerback Dee Milliner was lost for the season after he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury. Not a recipe for success when about to take on a New England team that’s scored 80 points over the last two weeks.

Tom Brady has thrown nine touchdowns and one interception in his last five games against the Jets.

Free New England vs. New York Pick:

The Patriots are out with something to prove right now and that’s bad news for the Jets. They’ll want to run up the score here and they should be able to do so by exploiting a very beatable Jets secondary.

NFL Week 7 Trends

Additionally, the Patriots’ ability to put up points will help over bettors. The Jets should get some points as well as the loss of Jerod Mayo is a big hit to the Patriots’ rush defense.

  • The Jets are 0-5-1 ATS in their six games this season, while the Patriots are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 home games.
  • The over is 5-1 in the Patriots’ last six Thursday games, and 20-7 in their last 27 games against AFC East opponents.
  • The over is also 8-1 in the last nine meetings between these teams, and 5-1-1 in the last seven meetings in New England.
